I moved to London from a stink hole ex steel/mining village in wales 10 years years ago. I still feel safer walking around london anywhere any time than that place, they were like animals. Sure there is crime in London but in my experience the odds of being a victim are low when you consider how many people live here. Guess it depends where you live and where you hang out. |

Its never dull, and I must say that along with the scots and the irish, the english have a good sick sense of humour. |

Living in England is not so bad. There are chavs and happy slapping and thugs but only in some areas. If you choose to live in a nice part of England then you would see that it is a fantastic country. And London isn't that bad either it has some of the world's best buildings and places to visit. |

Don't believe everything you see in the media - there is crime, but where I live for example, hardly any - no needles, no happy slapping, no chavs, no trouble on the trains. It all depends on where you go. Obviously there are more problems in inner city areas - just as there are in most parts of the world. As for the City of London, that is the business district of the capital, frequented mainly by professional types, and when I was last there it was very civilised. |

No, England is not as bad as this. Remmeber it is one of the richest countries in the world with a very high standard of living. The stories of chavs, happy slapping, etc., are exaggerated by the press (they do happen of course) and it makes the country sometimes seem like it is on the verge of utter anarachy but it is nothing like that. |

Not everywhere is like this.
England has its problems just like every other country.
Unfortunately, The world media tends to tar us all with the same brush.
Shame really. |

london is my favorite city in the world. no one can get a gun, so police spend their time on smaller crimes. it is a little hectic, but not worse than new york or chicago. the english countryside is beautiful, and peaceful. for americans though, england can be pretty expensive. hope this helps. |

Everywhere has it's rough areas and criminal element. There are parts of London (and other cities) where I wouldn't advise you to wander around, but it's not an urban nightmare.
Where did you plan to move here from? And how bad is it there? |

Well, compared to the USA, you'd have about half the chance of being killed by a car, which it the main single cause of death, there, for 14-25 year-olds. That would outweigh almost any other consideration, if you were worried about safety.
No, you'd have to go hunting for the really rough, crime-ridden areas, which effectively all big cities have, all round the world. But yes, they are there. England isn't just London taxis, red telephone boxes and bowler hats: the clichés.
For a small country it varies massively which is part of its charm to a visitor, or for trips and holidays.
Pick your town and district: London (and its varied districts) is not Brighton is not Ironbridge is not York is not a small village on the edge of Bodmin Moor, where I happen to be.
(A Cornish household is likely to be burgled once in 229 years.
A vehicle in Cornwall might be broken into once in 137 years.)
We'm pretty peaceable down here, barrin' a few grey-ish spots like the surfing crowd at Newquay, without which the 229 and 137 could probably be stretched longer. |

The things which you mentioned do exist, but I have never seen any of them and I've lived in London for 48 years. |

I wouldn't live anywhere else.
It's not all as bad as you've heard.
Are you not including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? |

Some parts.
London isnt the only place though. I live in a town and theres NOTHING at all like that. But everywhere theres always a place where its dark and dingey and druggies. Chavs are all over, but most are harmless wannabes. I no lots of them and when you get to know them they arent all to bad.
London is probably a too posh of a place for me, im the kinda slang person and dont talk full english but type it most ov the time.
If you want to move to england look up on it first, as its not what its cracked up to be. |

I've lived on what is classed as one of the roughest estates in the north of England and I have never been beat up and I have never seen heroin needles on the street.
Yes, some places are bad. Yes, there is gun/knife crime in certain areas. But, tell me, which country has a 0% crime rate, no drug users, no fights and no chavs? |
|

No name.
 |
No, its not that bad. There's a lot of chavs, but to be they don't do any harm unless you piss them off. Those random people were football hooligans. And football hooliganism isn't as bad as it used to be. There's hardly any heroin needles on the street.
But some places are worse than others, but its still not that bad. If it was that bad I would have moved out of England by now, and there wouldn't be so many people immigrating here if it was that bad.

You have been reading the papers, mate. We have the most infantile set of journos in the world, and having lived a lot of places I reckon UK is OK. Hmmm. Has a certain ring that, doesn't it? Oh, and ignore Ben. He is obviously lacking something. |
