London Underground - amount of 'rubbish' left on seats and floor ? revolting or just part of life ? |
Some young lady ate a sandwich, left the plastic sandwich case/cover on the seat and I didn't realise it was behind me until she got up (she was seated beside the window) and I moved to the side for her to leave, took my seat back and to my disgust noticed it.
On the way home, I saw 2 empty grolsch lager cans , a torn doritos bag of chips , spilt out into a corner of a seat and an empty muller yogurt carton on the opposite seat.
This is disgusting, why do people not bother taking their rubbish with them ? or maybe i am over reacting as always and should succumb once more to the P.C brigade and admit that its just 'part of life' ? |

Revolting, disrespectful and antisocial.
We also live in Japan and you will never ever see any litter either on the trains, the platforms or between the tracks.
We claim it is due to`cultural differences` |

Sorry to have to report that your experience of the London Tube is not new. I'm 67 and my meories of the Tube is that it is now far better than it used to be. One thing, there is a lot more trash left about and most of this are the freebie newspapers we don't take home with us. Other trash related problem is lack of bins down the Tube for obvious security reasons.
There are now 3.5 million Londoners crammed into the Tubes daily. Not surprising then that a few of us leave trash all over the place.
That 3.5 million Tube users far outstrips the number of travellers using the national railway network daily, by the way. I mean the Tube is just massive.
Well, I expect you knew that.
How to keep warm in winter. Spend the entire day going round the Circle line reading all the freebies.

HEY you think thats bad,i remember a press story from the seventies where a DEAD body circulated on the underground for a whole day, and was only "noticed"when the train had finished for the day and was getting"cleaned?"out!! |

It's the norm, unfortunately.
The absence of litter bins on the tube (removed during the 1980s bombings by the IRA and never put back) make it even more difficult to persuade people to do the responsible thing.
The free newspapers given out on the tube in the morning and evening don't help. The companies producing them claim to collect and recycle a lot of the discarded ones but there always seem to be a few flapping around.

Hmm, how about: a revolting part of life there?
I remember my first time there. I was shocked seeing people dropping litter on the street not even slowing down their pace or looking for a rubbish bin. Noone around them seemed revolted either. Or millions of flattened chewing gums on the sidewalks ... it" just disgusting when you realise what you walk on.
I sort of got used to it but still don't get it. |

I am a bus driver in London. My bus can be cleaned at the terminus, and when I get to the other end it is just as disgusting. People behave like vermin, I don't care, they probably live like it at home as well.
But no, it's not part of life, no more than all people are vermin, but we hear all about their human rights.
Do the rest of us not have any human rights? |

Thank yourself lucky - one time I went out into the stairway above my local supermarket (frequented regularly by big issue sellers) only to be greeted by a lovely turd perched atop one of the stairs. Now, I'm no turd expert but I can say for sure that it was most likely human lol.
Needless to say I almost spewed at the sight of it. Feel sorry for the poor person who had to clean it up. Disgusting. |

If everyone disposed of trash properly, there would be no jobs for cleanup crews.
These people who litter are actually stimulating the economy. |

It's because townies are rich and privileged and they think nothing of the billion pound task cleaning up after them is, I am from a rural area and I work as a landscaper for a national company, one of my sites is an inner city car park in Exeter devon, in an affluent part of town it is disgusting to see what is left behind there, I have to do a litter clearance there on monday mornings and it makes me wretch, it is like they are having a festival of litter and everyone is invited.
There is something you can do about it more details here
http://www.cpre.org.uk/campaigns/stop-the-drop/litter-and-fly-tipping/litter-take-action
This is not something I would normally bother to do , but I find peoples laziness disgusting, it wasn't much hassle and is a worthy cause, that doesnt require a donation. |

It's all over the country. The other day, a girl in front of me at the bus stop just threw a hula hoops bag on the floor. Right in front of me! There was a bin on the bus for god's sake. I just don't understand why she couldn't have waited and put it in there. Some people just have no care and respect.
We had a talk the other day at college with a local policeman. The things he was coming out with angered me SO much! Apparantly when they get a call from the CCTV reporting littering they tend to leave it because it'd not very important. That alone just goes to show what kind of lazy society we live in. |

hey dodgy are you serious? there was a dead body left for a whole day?? my sisters friend swears there was someone who was dead opposite her. the next day on the news there was a body dumped at a station. spooky huh? the rubbish though, its unacceptable. its not just on the underground, its everywhere, on buses and all over the world. im from sydney and the trains are jsut as bad. |

Blame the IRA.
London Underground removed bins from stations in the 80s due to fear of terrorists leaving bombs inside. Although there are now bins again, people have become used to just leaving their rubbish around. |

Dropping rubbish everywhere is one of my biggest hates. Next time you see someone shout 'Excuse me, you have left something behind' normally they have nothing to say back and come and pick it up. I really hate it. Grrrr
Another thing is with them coffee cups they like to leave on the floor when they have finished with them, once it got knocked over and coffee went all over my new bag! Not 'appy. |

Yeah, i think its bad. It doesn't look for tourists!
When i went on the tube, there was a woman swearing about how much of a bad she had, my brother was their who was 10! and my sister even younger. This was when i went on holiday. |

well if TFL weren't convinced that everyone with litter to dispose of was a potential terrorist then maybe there would be some bins in some train stations, or on some platforms.
there aren't even any bins in guildford rail station.
i mean who wants to blow up Guildford? |
