Remember the 70's...GLC were eager to shut down all public loos (allegedly on account of the mens bogs being used for, well...y'know). Damn...if CCTV was about then - then they wouldn't have needed to shut them

Yes, I saw this earlier and my first reaction was just to find it humorous. Anyone who seriously needs the lav will find one anyway, they don't need yet another 'system'. I can still find my way without sat nav, so I think I will still be able to manage to find a toilet without 'sat lav'. I thought at first it was a joke but then I realised it was serious. What next?

yes

On Thursday, Westminster City Council launched a new text message service that will guide Londoners and tourists to their nearest public lavatory.

Anyone who sends the word "Toilet" to 80097 will receive a reply giving details of their nearest public convenience.

All that comes at a price, however. Rather than spending a penny, people will be charged 25 pence per text.

I heard that on LBC today. I assume it's real, but isn't it easier to just go to a department store?

Dragoner
Yes and I saw it demonstrated on TV last night [Fri 30th Nov]. Without wishing to make a silly pun of all of this, the Sat-Lav system is crap. The girl on TV waited more than 20 minutes but got no reply so went into a nearby Starbucks. Do Starbucks have lavs?

The best place for a loo is any of the major stores on Oxford Street. Selfridges is best. Otherwise just go into a pub and use theirs - there was supposed to be a BILL in the House of Commons which would make it mandatory on shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs etc., to allow members of the public to use their loos. Not sure what happened to this.

In Holland it has always been the case that anyone can use a loo in a cafe etc without having to buy anything in there.

There are probably less than a quarter of the public loos there used to be back in the 1940s when I was a kid here in London.

We no longer have public drinking fountains either and must buy expensive bottled water - what tosh!

You are in fact right, a young girl devised the idea according to the BBC news.

And the data gathered will provide a Public Information Service Statistic.

I'm PISSing myself now.
