I'd recommend either Cardiff, which is still cheap compared to many cities as great as it is, or maybe Lincolnshire somewhere which is cheap but also with several places on the main line between London and leeds (Can be quicker getting to lodnon by train from Lincolnshire than it can be by car from London itself!) |

I am from the South of England about 38 miles from london and it is expenisve in the South of England so I would have to say to move to somewhere like Cheshire a county in the North West of England, Wales or maybe the North of England [I say manybe the North as I also moved there for 5 years and the cost of living is much lower for accommodation etc but there is not much work there].
You could also consider the Midlands region - i.e Coventry, Warwickshire region [not Birmingham .. a bit too rough]. I went to University in this area and it is cheaper than the South and only about 60 miles [ 1 hou and 10 mins away from London]
If you do decide to move to the South avoid London.. you'll find it hard to live on £500 a month there. Consider the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire [Hitchin or Hatfield not St Albans or Harpenden as they are expensive!] and Buckinghamshire [Milton Keynes maybe] which are in the South but cheaper! |

The Yorkshire Dales! You could rent a picturesque cottage in Swaledale or Wensleydale for about 500 a month |

you wont get anything decent in Scotland for £500...not in a good area ! |

probably the north, definitely not south..you couldn't rent a shoe box to live in for 500 in the south. Rents are fairly high wherever you go now, plus they want money up front for a bond |
