If you mean the religion with which people identify, Christianity by a large margin. However, a much smaller percentage are actually practicing Christians.
From the National Statistics website, from the 2001 Census:
"Just over three-quarters of the UK population reported having a religion. More than seven out of ten people said that their religion was Christian (72 per cent). After Christianity, Islam was the most common faith with nearly 3 per cent describing their religion as Muslim (1.6 million).
The next largest religious groups were Hindus (559 thousand), followed by Sikhs (336 thousand), Jews (267 thousand), Buddhists (152 thousand), and people from Other religions (179 thousand). These groups each accounted for less than 1 per cent and together accounted for a further 3 per cent of the UK population.
People in Northern Ireland were most likely to say that they identified with a religion (86%) compared with those in England and Wales (77%) and Scotland (67%). About sixteen per cent of the UK population stated that they had no religion. This category included agnostics, atheists, heathens and those who wrote Jedi Knight.
The Census religion question was a voluntary question. Nevertheless, over 92 per cent of people chose to answer it." |

Church of England, being Anglican the sad state of affairs is that due to the stupidity of "political correctness" the largest will soon be Islam. |

The official religion of England is Christianity, as practised by the Church of England (Anglican). The Church in Wales is also Anglican. In Scotland the official Church is the Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Other Christians include the Roman Catholics and the Methodists.
Britain is a multi faith society in which everyone has the right to religious freedom. Although Britain is historically a Christian society, people are usually very tolerant towards the faiths of others and those who have no religious beliefs. |

Officially, Church of England. Many people believe they are atheist, but almost everyone believes in the ten commandments - they know that they really ought not to kill each other, for example. Most people loosely follow the Church of England, although they may not believe in a god. There are quite a large number of Christians though, many of them devout. I'd say most people don't believe in a god, though (which is technically atheism - but they still believe in the ten commandments, right and wrong, etc).
We do have our fair share of Muslims and Jews, we're pretty multi-cuiltural in fact. We've even got the odd Spiritual Satanist, although it appears to be frowned upon by most people (as does everything we don't understandm, unfortunately). In the big cities, especially, there are fewer Christians. For example in Manchester, there are many religious houses but not a single church.
How could it be buddhist? LOL! Never met an English Buddhist in my life. I've met a Taoist, but not a Buddhist. |

As we are becoming more multi-cultural then i would now say it is varied.

Shopping. To state that Britain is a Christian country other than in offical terms is nonsense. 99% of the population never go near a church or place of worship except perhaps to attend weddings and funerals. What is really fundamental though is that there is totally no spiritual value or content in most peoples' lives - shopping and material accumulation, reality TV.mobile phones, and holidays in urban resorts in the Mediterranean leave no room for most for contact with nature, each other or any deep appreciation of existance. |
