Depends on age of your family - if school age kids then have a look at areas like Bearsden, Milngavie and Jordanhill (all north west, nest Loch Lomond) or NEwton MEarns, Giffnock and Williamwood (on south-side).

Alternatively, further out are Ayrshire (Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Kilmarnock) which is near the coast yet commutable or Renfrewshire (Paisley, Houston, Kilmacolm, Bridge of Weir, Lochwinnoch).

Have a look at the local council www for school info.

Glasgow is a great place to live with easy access to the countryside and coast. Good luck with the move!

come to sunny dumbarton, only a short 40 min drive into glasgow. close to loch lomond and the road to the highlands

there are lots of lovely areas?do not be put off people are nice

Coatbridge. Next to M8 to Glasgow (20 mins) and Edinburgh (40 mins). Also 10 mins to the M74 heading south to Carlisle and 10 mins from the M80 heading North. Close enough to Glasgow to still enjoy a night out. Train takes around 25 mins from any of the towns 7 or so train stations. It also seems as though every other school in the town has just been knocked down and rebuilt! All in all, a good place to stay.

Paisley, Renfrewshire has some lovely schools and is very close to the train station and commuting is around 15 mins to the centre - yet close to the countryside. Best of both worlds.

Good shopping complexes with lots of choice.

Glasgow's South Side is almost made up of leafy suburbs.

There are many places in South Glasgow that are less than 30 mins from the City Centre..
Check these places out..

Busby
Clarkston
Eaglesham
Muirend
Rutherglen
Cambuslang
Eastwood
Pollokshields
Cathcart
Giffnock
King's Park
Burnside
Langside
Newton Mearns

I would recommend East Renfrewshire which has the best education in Scotland, Newton Mearns is nice. It's on the outskirts of Glasgow, near a motorway for easy access and near the countryside.

Hope this helps. :-)

Newton Mearns is just outside -of Glasgow (quite posh)

There are many nice towns and villages in Ayrshire you can get to glasgow quickly on the M77.
