Moving to London?
Ok, am moving to lahdan-tahn to start my phd there in late sept. I have no where to live. am now starting to panic. i cannot afford to move down there til 1st sept as am working in birmingham. gumtree has not really been much help, can anyone advise me on finding a room with people who aren't too schizo near UCL (wc1 etc). Cheers m'dears.
I recently had a very similar problem; I needed to move to london to undertake my Internship (that I am now doing) and desperately needed to find somewhere to live!
There were alot of houses/rooms to rent on gumtree.com, both for students and professionals, but as you are a student and therefore may like to live with students I found accomodationforstudents.com to be a good website.
I found some really nice people to live with through this site and it is free (you can send them your mobile number etc). I think you should be fine as you have got a few months. I had only a few weeks to find somewhere and found a lovely place through the student website. See links to the sites below.

Surely UCL should be able to advise you? Good luck and enjoy London....

my advice is not to take any advice from these "schizos"

I'll put you up for a couple of days. I always leave the toilet seat down, I'm a reasonable cook, and I never fart when I have guests.

I used flatmateclick.co.uk and it was pretty good. And you can use it to search without having to pay which is a bonus
Happy househunting!

There are many websites that should help you, take some time to browse those. This website should help.
Don't look for a place in central London, that's far too expensive, I live in south London and I have great train links to the city, about 20 mins from my house to Charing Cross if that helps?!

You can try Loot but i am surprised that you have had no luck with Gumtree. I found my flat share on there and have since found two flatmates.

Contact UCL directly and they should be able to put you in contact with flat share groups or at least give you details of local flat share opportunities...
Failing that they may put an ad up for you on community board for people to contact you??
