Froogies

My UK passport expires August 08. Can I use it to travel to France if returning 17th Feb?

Additional Details
No it's not a silly question, as some travel companies advise you to make sure it has 6 months left from the date you return.

For International travel, most countries require you to have a minimum of six months duration left on your passport...as you are coming back into the UK in February then you should be ok....could be difficult if you were going away in February.

Edit
If you are going abroad in February as well then you will need to get your passport renewed asap

stuuee
yes it hasnt expired yet.

Strictly speaking, you don't need a passport to travel to France, or to return.

That is the whole point of the European Union, free movement within its borders for citizens of member states.

The reason you are required to show a passport within the EU is because the transport operators face huge penalties if they are found transporting illegal immigrants from outside the EU, and they insist on a valid passport in order to board their systems. This is a transport operator requirement (coach, rail, air), not a customs requirement.

Note also that you do not need a passport to leave the country, only to get back in. A passport is not a permission to leave. That you need to show a passport to leave is a pragmatic requirement, not a constitutional or legal one.

Yes it should be fine and if the six month rule did apply you have well over five months so its down to the check out desk, why not give them a ring just to find out from some one qualified to tell you instead of people on here thinking your silly, i mean whats this site for?? Asking questions.......getting answers????? I wonder!!! Have a good time on your holiday

17th feb 08 then yes - as long as you are back before the passport runs out you are ok

If feb 09 then no!!

Dont forget to get it renewed as soon as you get back - if you are like me you will forget all about it until the week before you next travel and then have to q outside passport office at 5am!

shahid_770

bronnimoose
