I have never been to the UK so not sure if this would work for you. But my wife and I did this ofter we we were dating and in our marriage. Just pack up a cooler and some clothes and start driving. At every intersection decide, left, right or straight. Where you end up is where you end up. Get a hotel, go out to dinner. While at dinner ask your server what there is to do in town. It makes for a fun get away. Just be sure to bring a map so you can figure out how to get home. |

Lake District is beautiful. Lots of fun and plenty of things to do. Visit the quaint towns, the stunning lakes and beautiful fells. |

Snuggle up on the sofa instead and eat Easter eggs. The traffic will be horrendous. Then go away next weekend when everyone and his dog won't be on the road! |

Go to Anglelsey, if you like mountains and sea and its a close drive from the midlands. If you want a day trip then catch the ferry to Southern ireland from Holyhead, you dont need a passport or visa. |

Are you mad?
Go away for the Easter weekend?
It'll be packed wherever you go and as this weekend is the official start of the holiday season (march! I don't think so) all the prices will increase by 25-100%.
Go to the pictures, go out for meals, stay in for sex but don't ruin a nice long weekend by trying to go anywhere nice! |

I suppose you're going by car?
1) Look for accommodation in Northern Wales that lies "handily" next to major East-West road.
2) Check on the internet whether Caernarfon, or any of the other northern castles, are open.
3) Portemeirion village should be open all year round anyway.
Prepared in this way you are then very flexible and could
- depending on your mood and the weather -
ramble through Anglesey,
visit Portmeirion,
visit one of the castles,
climb your way around Snowdonia,
or stroll around Chester, which I've been told is a very nice place |

Edinburgh! Edinburgh is amazing, good rock climbing, but indoors. Theres a huge indoor rock climbing centre in Ratho, it's pretty nice and the area itself is beautiful. |

Given the off-putting weather forecast, and the usual congestion due to Bank Holiday traffic, and taking a longer term view - why not go to a Registry Office? |

How about Cardiff Bay - it's lovely now that it's all been done out. There's plenty to do round there. |
