My fiancee and I are thinking about moving to Scotland?

I currently live in the US. my fiancee and I are thinking about moving to Scotland, specifically Edinburgh. Can anyone give us a heads up on what will be needed (other than money) to make this happen?

Unfortunately whilst we seem to let every money grabber from Eastern Europe into this country it is very difficult for an American to move here. You can't just sell up and move over. In order to stay and work you will need to find an employer to sponsor you who must then prove that they cannot source your particular labour from anywhere else in the EU - very tough. I suggest you look at the Home Office website as it can probably give you more guidance.

Before making any considerable steps towards this I would suggest visiting Edinburgh a number of times - the grass may seem greener here in Scotland but that's often because it rains 8 months in the year.

#1 you need permission, in the form of a VISA
types: tourist/travel, work, or student etc

#2 commitment to stay somewhere where you do not know or maybe agree with their customs

#3 housing

#4 drivers permit - maybe an international licence, and ability to drive on opposite side

#5 foriegn bank account - which means you need funds, ID and probably no criminal record

#6 Travel health insurance

Edinburgh is beautiful! Good luck!!

An entry visa and a job would help. Edinburgh is very expensive so keep that in mind.

Eh, no it's not. People in work is at an all time high.

if you get through the red tape and move to scotland dunfermline would be a nice place to stay and is within easy commuting distance from edinburgh and house prices are cheaper and so is the night life

Edinburgh is the dearest place in Scotland to live, the average price for a house is £250,000 $500,00 and unemployment is high in the UK.

I love to LMFAO :D
