There is only ONE lake in the Lake District - Bassenthwaite.

All the other so-called "lakes" are either Tarns or Waters (for example, Coniston Water).

This is a long-standing "trick" question in pub quizzes and it always catches out those who say "Windermere" (a Tarn) or "Coniston" (a Water), etc.

The Tank
Lake Bassenthwaite is the only Lake.
The rest are "waters" or "meres".
