Brighton was the first major seaside town and was patronised by the Prince Regent, but it soon began to feel the effects of a new clientele after the rail line was installed in 1841. The railway soon made it Britain's most popular resort.
Also, Blackpool, Southport, Scarborough, Llandudno, Ramsgate, Margate, Weymouth, Torquay, Dover, Ilfracombe, Ryde, Cowes and Worthing all became well known resorts.

Most of the well-known seaside resorts in the UK became fashionable during the Victorian era. Here's just a few:

Weston Super Mare
Burnham on Sea
Eastborne
Margate
Brighton
Blackpool
Torquay
Bournemouth
Weymouth
Lyme Regis
Great Yarmouth
Cromer
Saltburn by the Sea
Tenby (Wales)
Llandudno (Wales)
Ayr (Scotland)

And the list could go on and on!

Southport is brilliant. Has a Victorian Pier where you can still play on the Old Penny slot machines and the beach is good and clean.

Herne Bay is a good one, pretty much the same as it was back then too!

Llandudno (North Wales) is my favourite. The pier is wonderful, very nostalgic. Traditional Punch and Judy, lovely hotels facing the sea, with Victorian facades intact.

Southwold in Suffolk comes a close second. Interesting little shops, again a lovely hotel, Adnams beer brewed locally, (still use beautiful drey horses to haul the barrels around town).
Rebuilt pier, with Victorian penny amusements. The beach huts are world famous (and SO expensive)! Local artists setting the scene. I could go on and on!

Nairn, Scotland is one not mentioned on your answers. It is a beautiful beach and is unspoilt unlike Scarborough and Whitby, you would love it there. You can even see dolphins on a good day.

There have been two series by the BBC entitled COAST travelling all around the British Isles giving lots of detailed information about the coast line, if you can get a copy to watch it will give you quite a bit of info on where you want to look, its very interesting. hope this helps you.

Can't speak for all of them, but Scarborough is really nice. As a born tyke I have to promote a place in Yorkshire of course.

Great Yarmouth is somewhere I've been to a few times and really liked. I hated North Wales apart from Llandudno. Blackpool is dirty, run down and overpriced with some good hotels but also some totally disgusting ones.

Marget and Herne Bay are worth a visit too.

Here are some I have found on my travels

Skegness
Hunstanton
South Shields
Weston Super Mare
Brighton
Caister
Rhyl
Ayr

The best has got to be Llandudno in North Wales.
