For the period of Queen Elizabeth I, any of the following would be acceptable girls names:
Agnes, Anne, Jane, Joan, Katherine/Catherine, Margaret, Mary
For a surname, you could choose either:
- A name based on family relationship (like Johnson, Williamson, Thomas, etc)
- A name based on a natural feature near their home (Wood, Hill, Field, etc.) or the area that they or their ancestors came from (Wiltshire, Ashford, Pevensey, etc)
- A name based on their or their ancestors occupation: Carpenter, Smith, Fletcher (puts feathers on arrows), Baker, Gardener, Cooper (makes barrels).
- A name derived from a nickname or distinguishing feature of one of their ancestors (Reid, for example, comes from red as in red-haired, or Armstrong, meaning literally someone strong in the arm)
See what you can come up with!

You posted this question twice. I answered it as follows :
Those first names are not really the sort of names that would have been used in those times.
Look at http://www.guildofstmichael.org/names.html for a list of contemporary names.
For surnames have a look at http://surname.sofeminine.co.uk/w/surnames/uk.html
Note the names suggested above : Evans, Jones, Davies, Williams are all Welsh surnames. although common in England now they would have been less common in England then. |
