Passing through UK immigration, from Brazil, is it likely to be straightforward?

I have a Brazillian friend that plans on visiting me in England, she has heard that sometimes Immigration here can refuse entry for no apparent reason. Does anyone know the likelyhood of having difficulties passing through our immigration?

Yes sometimes they refuse entry for no apparent reason. It depends on who deals with it, and what her purpose of entering UK is. If she is just visiting you as a tourist it is less likely to be so complicated and should be straight forward, but she must have return ticket to go out from UK. Just make sure that she has all the right things like address where she will be while she is in UK, and so on. She has to tell them clearly she is just visiting, and has no intention to stay.
If she is coming on student/work permit however, she has to prove that the visa is genuine, and has to prove that she will not be using any public funds while she is here. So she needs acceptance letter from her school/employer, and a prove that she has money in her bank account.
Good luck.

Brazilian girl coming to visit, huh? Way to go buddy!.. Love those South American women!!!

I can't imagine it will be a problem, but I'm also a chronic optimist.

Good luck!

call your locall airport and ask fort he procedures or get with the perticular airlines she will be on to come and visit .. Maybe she can make sure that her Passport is ok etc.

have a nice visit with your friend

As long as your friend can show a return ticket or ticket out of Britain, prove that they have funds and can give an address of where they will be staying then there should be no problems. If they overstay their holiday visa (usually 6 months) then that is when the fun really starts!!

If you have a British passport, and are white Caucasian, they probably won't even stamp or open your passport.

Anything else expect an internal body search, and probable arrest!

But seriosly, when I last went back to UK with my Thai wife, who didn't speak much English, I passed through Immigration with no probelem, but I could see my wife was being hassled.
I went to the supervisor to see what the problem was, and he said that he was sorry but this was the best staff he could find!

However, I doubt if you'll get any hassle, unless you look like a terrorist or drug smuggler.
