Pizza/pasta/Italian recommendation in London? |
Hi there, I've got my family down to visit at the weekend and I was hoping someone could recommend a good, reasonably priced Italian restaurant in London? They'll be staying near Paddington, however we aren't planning on staying in the hotel room all weekend so I guess anywhere central would be fine! My 13-year-old sister will be with us and we're after somewhere that's really good value for money, nothing fussy, with a great atmosphere. Can you help? Cheers, Hx |

I love the Trattoria Italiana Biagio in between Charing Cross and Embankment tube stations. First of all, the atmosphere is great. You feel like you’re in an authentic Italian trattoria and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The place is quite small (so you may want to call ahead for a group) but this just helps the homey atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Pasta entrees are only around 7 or 8 pounds and meat entrees start at around 10 pounds. I like that you feel like you're at a fancy sit-down restaurant but it's very affordable, especially for London.
This restaurant is apparently part of a group of Italian restaurants owned by the same company, but Trattoria Italiana Biagio is the only one I have personally experienced. You can find out more about all locations at this web address http://www.biagio.co.uk/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,121/lang,/. I particularly like the location of Trattoria Italiana Biagio though because it is so close to the river and Trafalgar Square. Either way you go after dinner makes for a lovely scenic evening walk. |

There are so many Italian pizza and pasta places in London that it's hard to recommend one. Th only thing I can say is that if you like chain restaurants then Spaghetti House, Ask, Little Italy or Pizza Express are always good. Failing that find a little family run place and you won't go wrong. I can't say I've ever had a bad Italian meal in London - bad restaurants don't tend to stay open long with so much competition around.
If you want something more upmarket then go to www.toptable.co.uk and book something. I found this one called Zonzo on Edgware Road which has good reviews:

Zizzi is near to Victoria Station and absolutely amazing and I think it's really well priced. I'm not sure the name of the building but it's made of glass and really big so I'm sure it's hard to miss. |

A lot of people have suggested Pizza Express, which is great, don't get me wrong I love Pizza Express, but it is a chain of restaruants that are ALWAYS busy. If you want a proper traditional Italian restaurant, head to Caprini in Waterloo. This is one of the last remaining proper old skool Italian restaurants in Lodnon and the food is awesome, well priced and fresh. One thing - if you go there - you MUST eat the bruschetta - it's to die for!!! |

A Place that i went not that long ago was right in the center of London at the end of Regent's Street, and just off of Piccadilly Circus on Denman St. It is a family based resturant called Il Cucciolo Ristorante. It is a small resturant with a great atmosphere, people are always entering and leaving. At tfirst when my plate came I though "this isn't enough" but with a few bites I was full and was very pleased with the quality of the food. The location is on a side street in soho near some pubs so isn't great but once in you'll love it. This resturant is a little bit over resonably priced.
Another place which is closer, cheaper, and I think is better is in South Kensington and is called Pierino. It is a modernly furnished small resturant with small out door tables. It is located in the very fashionable "Royal Borough Of Kensington & Chelsea" bringing in many fashionable and rich people including families. It is great for location as from paddinton all you need to do is get on the Circle Line (Yelow) and take a short journey southbound to South Kensington. one of the exits is near the resturant. Another bonus is that two great museums which are very suitable for families are located near, these are The Nation History & Science Museum. You could spend the day at one or both of the museums and then go of for dinner with a short walk to the resturant. The food quality is top notch and the survice is great. It is at:
37 Thurloe Place
South Kensington
I recomended this to my friends who are a couple and they thoroughly enjoyed the meal and thanked me for the recomendation. So I would go here.
The Final place I will recomend is Pizza Express. My favourite chain of pizza resturants. There are many of these Resturants located all around the city. Again this is responable priced with great quality food and survice, also with a pleasant atmosphere.
Below is a link with all of the resturants in London showing you the closest to Paddington, on the right hand side you can change the location to suit your needs!
Hope This Is A Help!
Good Luck And Have Fun!
