I took my baby there last year and she was 4 months. Me & my hubby went to the zoo and to the castle (also stopping over night).
We are going back again in 2 weeks and gonna visit same places & baby is now 15 month

There is all of the places that everyone has suggested, but also try the Museum of scotland. Edinburgh is built on a hill, so just be careful especially if you have a pram. The bus tours are great for getting to see all over edinburgh and the best way to get around especially if it is raining. For lunch i would suggest Rose street which has got lots of pubs in it which all serve great food. There is lots to do, there is also the children's museum which is free. The zoo is great too, but it is on the outskirts of town. Where are you staying and will you have transport with you or are you coming by train etc.

Edinburgh zoo is brilliant,we went last month and we also went to a place called our dynamic earth which is indoors and that is really interesting and just walking along the main street where the park is can be really enjoyable.I loved Edinburgh and can't wait to go again!

have a walk down Princes street, climb the Scot monument, look down on the flower clock, visit the castle and go to the park at the end of inverleith terrace where i grew up

The baby is too young for sightseeing. The best you
could do for a nice walk would be to go to the Princess
Street Gardens with the Castle above. I think that
anything else would be too much for the child. I only
hope it will turn out to be a nice sunny day.

The zoo is a good bet, loads and loads of things for your daughter to see, however it is built on a hill and if she's in a pushchair someone will have to push her uphill!

The castle is an old favourite, loads to see there too. Just walking around the old town itself is would be a great way to kill a few hours.

On the Royal Mile there is the Museum of Childhood, a museum dedicated to toy throughout the ages but your daughter might be a bit young for that ("There's all these toys and i can't touch them, why not mummy?").

Outside of Edinburgh just over the Forth Road Bridge is Deep Sea World which is a large indoor aquarium, a good standby for rainy days.

A nice walk down the Royal mile will take you through the new and old Edinburgh. There are several places to eat and lovely places to stop of to look at. When you get to the bottom you will also be at the new parliment.

The City Sightseeing Tour will help you to get your bearings, you can hop on and off as you like.

Edinburgh Castle, Camera Obscura, Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre and St Giles Cathedral are all in the same vicinity.
You could then take a walk down the Royal Mile to Holyrood House - you get great haggis,neeps and tatties in The Wee Windaes on The Mile!!

There are a couple of galleries in Princess Park, good place for a packed lunch if it's dry.

Scottish Parliament is supposed to be quite good, if you fancy a walk there are great views from Arthur's Seat.

Personally i don't think much of the shopping in Edinburgh, but i do live in Manchester and we're a bit spoiled here. Although i enjoy the walk around the Grassmarket from the Royal Mile - a number of quaint shops and there is a fantastic cheese shop on the way round.

I've been to Edinburgh 7-8 times over the past few years and have yet to make it out to The Royal Yacht Britannia so i don't know if it's worth the trip - but i believe you can get a bus.

The Zoo is out of the city and does take a while to get around, it's good but you might find it hard to get much more in - you could save it for the second day if you have time. If you have some time but not a lot (on your second day) The Royal Botanic Gardens are lovely, esp if it's a nice day - it's not free.

You will be spoiled for choice when it comes to food, but if you like Italian Deli's and are anywhere near Valvona and Crolla (they have a website but i think it's on Elm Row) - it's like an emporium and they have a lovely eatery round the back.

There is also a fantastic Italian takeaway in Stockbridge called L'alba D'oro, and next door is a great fish and chip shop. It's run by the same family.

Enjoy your time there and don't forget your camera and your comfy shoes!!

Edinburgh castle is great, lots to see, great views of the amazing city. Catch a tour (which is free with admission to the castle), you won't be sorry you did. At one oclock they shoot off a canon, which is neat to see as well. After that take a walk down the Royal Mile, it's so historic, great churches, and some neat shops. Edinburgh is so beautiful just a walk around the city is enough.

Then there is the Girlguiding Scotland HQ and Shop on Coates Crescent - get you daughter her Rainbow and Brownie uniforms for when she is old enough!

Camera obscura on the royal mile just down from castle it is excellent it is an old style camera / telescope that focuses the area onto a big white table yor bairn would love as she will be able to see whole of edinburgh go about their businees "from above" so to speak

The Butterfly and Insect World. No 3 bus from Princes Street. It's warm and indoors aalyera round, there's loads of colour and movement, hands on stuff and you big adults'll love the creepy insects and stuff. They are all in cages but you get to hold some of them. Fabby! oooo and you can get lunch there too.

If you're athletic, a climb to the top of the Scott Memorial provides a lovely view.

Most of the city's sites are family friendly but I would avoid the dungeon or Mary Kings Close as they are dark and uneven if you are carrying a baby or using a pushchair.
The Princes Street Gardens are a nice place for a walk as is going up onto Calton Hill to see the Follies. You'll have a great time whatever you choose to do. Its a great place to go.

Edinburgh Castle, If you can't find it ,visit nearest spacsavers.
Walk about Edinburgh around 12:59 and when it turns 13:00 you will find it, infact you will hear it before you see it as the gun goes off at 13:00 hrs daily, have a nice trip.

Jimmy Chungs chinese buffet on Waverley bridge is excellent and as it's beside princes street gardens it's very easy to find.

Try also a walk down the royal mile. mary kings close is great but perhaps not with a 5 month old. also good is the butterfly farm beside dobbies. It is just outside edinburgh but bus services 3 and 29 leave from north bridge and will drop you outside. Your little one will love seeing all the butterflies around her. don't go first thing in the morning though as the butterflies can be a bit sleepy until it warms up.
