The best way to study English is to be around people who speak it. English is the hardest language to learn, because of all the figurative sayings, double meanings of words, slang, etc., and most tapes and books don't teach this.

The more you hear it spoken, the more you catch on.

And your English isn't all that bad- as long as people can understand it, that's all that matters.

Spoken english is best on the radio or TV.

But why not go to your local shopping centre or pub and just sit and listen to people as they pass.

Good luck.

I've heard that lots of people learn English from the Television or movies. This is a great way to pick up on slang too!

the best way is to come to England and just try to speak english all the time. London is the best city in the world.
if you can`t come then watch the old british movies and listen to the precise speech. good luck

i know what you talking about ! i landed in Mid-East were everybody speaks only Arabic or English , and that is not my native tongue either !- be at peace, just learn the basics first, and then when you are there, learn from the experts yourself !
just enjoy this opportunity and not let this keep you from having fun.- here are worst things to be uneasy about ! Enjoy ! God bless
PS- your question came out pretty good !

The best way to learn English is to have chats and conversations with an English person and by watching English television.
Also spoken English is different in parts of the U.K, yes, it is still English but the words are made shorter and slang words are used, for example potatoes are called spuds, taters, tatties etc depending on where in England you are.

Your English is very good, you can be understood and that is all that matters

Well Done

I have a few friends who spoke little English when coming here. The best things to do I think are to read lots of English literature and newspapers, and to talk a lot. Ask a lot of questions, and have conversations with an English friend who you are comfortable with. That way, if you do not know a word, they will be able to provide it for you without you getting embarassed and you will learn a wider range of words.

Rumour has it, it takes seven years to perfect a second language, though I don't think anyone will notice this after your third year or so of speaking it constantly.

The best way, apart from watching & listening to English TV shows such as classic comedies like "Blackadder", "Monty Python's Flying Circus", "Dad's Army", "Open All Hours" + "Last of the Summer Wine" is to come over and attend a course such as the one offered at this place:
http://www.funenglish.co.uk (which is located in the UK's best seaside resort).

posting in an english speaking community is definitely a good step to take. get yourself a forum you are really interested in and take part in as many conversations as you can, you'll find your english getting better in no time. also, travel to english speaking countries on your own, not with a group, so you have to speak to people. btw - your english sounds fine to me. :-)

One of the best ways to study English is to listen to people talking, reading books, watching television, or you could try your local library and see if they have any language tapes/CDs they lend out. The problem with the English language is that there are many words that sound and are spelt the same but mean totally different things. Good luck.

Watching TV or listening to the radio is a good way of becoming familiar with phrases, but you need to know what they mean first. The best way would probably be to make a list of say thirty or forty common or vital words and phrases in your own language and put the english translations next to them spelled out phonetically.

That way you can spend some time each day practising (preferably with an english speaker incase your pronounciation is off) and when you get them down pat, make another laist.

Try and use each word or phrase every day, even if you just recite them to yoursef before you go to bed. I did this with my French when I studied it in school and I passed my exam with flying colours.

You need to keep it up though. I stopped after my exam six years ago and I don't have a clue about French anymore! But as you live in London, I'm sure that won't be a problem for you. Only thing I will caution you about is slang. Be sure you know what context to use it in before you say it or you could end offending someone.
