It would save me money being English if they did separate.
Wales isn't a country its a Principality, part of England ruled by a prince of the English crown, and hasn't been a country since the 12th century.
EDIT ---
Jock - Since each scotish person cost the english tax payer over £1.5K to sudsides scotland. Remember Scotland is the poorest country in Europe. That includes all the taxes made from scotish companies. Thats not even including the amount paid to the welsh who wouldn't last a few years without the English taxes.
Lets split hairs. The Welsh were conquored in the 12th Century, by the english. Wales is part of England and hence the prince of wales is the prince to the English crown. If you want we could included scotland but they weren't included until the act of union in the 1707 some 500 years after England had gained Wales.
If you really want to be picky Germany wasn't around at the time, formed in 1871, and the royal family come from mainly prussian blood line, even though hanover is currently in Germany.
The Act of Settlement, 1701, grants the successor to the English crown the right to Wales as the crown prince of wales. According to English law, and scottish law since 1707, the Prince of wales get the English crown. Since 1707 he also gets the scottish crown and since 1801 the Irish crown as well.
Please also point out were saying wales isn't a country and giving a date in which it stopped being a country contradicts itself. |

Yes I do. I will say that if it is possible they could be like Canada is in relation to England. Or the Allies in relation to each other. Just a thought. |

I'm from Scotland, so I guess you will arelady know what I have to say on the subject. Don't agree with the Kings/Queens part though. That's a bit old hat & they are just parasites anyway. I'd rather live in a republic than live under a monarchy. Whether that happens or not would be a different matter. I do want total independence for Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland though. We could then join with the Irish Republic & create a strong group of Celtic nations on the international scene, rather than the situation as of present.
kicking gt.....Scotland already has it's own unique legal system, so perhaps you ought to explain where you are coming from on the laws angle? Our Education systems & religious systems are different too.
clint_sl...I don't think you'll be any better off if Scotland or Wales get independence, if anything your taxes will just go up, like they will for me when this abolition of the 10p tax rate kicks in. Remember oyu'd be losing that hefty tax they currently slap on as Whisky duty. Not saying that Scotland or Wales would be any better or worse off, just that you will not be. As much as I am a total anti monarchist, you are way wide off the mark saying "Prince of an English crown". Actually, if you want to split hairs the "Royal Family" are a bunch of Germans, they have a connection to the Stuart Kings & I guess a bit futher back maybe the Tudors...but hang on...weren't they monarchies with their foundations in Scotland & Wales? If you want to be correct it is Prince of the United Kingdom. You also contradict yourself on the statement about Wales being a country BTW. |

Yes, in an ideal world. But sadly, the economy makes it impossible. I'm in Wales and would love Wales to be recognised for what it is, a country in it's own right. But the truth is, we just can't afford to separate from being part of the UK, we cannot support ourselves. |

I am in Scotland, and I believe that we would never cope financially. The Idea of "freedom" whilst extremely romantic is not very practical in the overall sense of things. (I.E. Laws, Finance/Social Security, Military, Schooling, to name a few) |

A resounding NO, nationalism always causes trouble. I was born in Wales but live in Scotland, however I class myself as British. Financially we are better off united. |

They are really their own separate country united together under one government. Each on their own would be too small to do well. For example who will protect Scotland or Wales if attacked by another country. Unity is strength. Be proud to be British. Each country likes its unigueness but in a referendum would always vote to remain part of Uk. For example in the last referendum in 2002 in N. Ireland, the vote was 83% to remain part of Uk. It might be higher in Scotland and Wales. |

I think the North of England should have a separate government from the South as the current one seems to just represent London. The other countries should be aloud to run themselves. I don't think there is much going on work wise in Wales since they closed the mines and haven't got proper broadband yet so they'd probably lose out if they couldn't claim benefits from Britain. |

Yes,
The UK is not United,
Scotland wants independence, so does Wales & Northern Ireland,
The English could not care less one way or the other,
It's just Gordon Brown & the Labour Government who cant/wont break up the UK ,
Because labour need the Scottish Votes to get back into power,
So if you Scots REALLY want Independence why do you keep voting Labour? |

I really don't care either way. However, I believe if Wales, Ireland and Scotland want to be seperate from England, then seperate should MEAN seperate, and you parasites should have your OWN government, and not rely on us for handouts, and financial backup. We have our own fair share of Kings, Queen's and old money thankyou, and you are welcome to your's!!!! |
