Glasgow will be very cold then (more so than it usually is!) so make sure you wrap up warm! There are plenty of things to keep you entertained such as visiting the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Transport Museum which is across the road from it. Try to visit the famous Barras market near Glasgow Cross if you can (it's only open at the weekends). The SECC is not too far from the city centre. A train from Central station will take you in no time at all. Check out these websites for an idea of some places to stay - www.wheretostay.co.uk, www.scotland.org.uk, www.1st-hotels-glasgow.co.uk. Hope you enjoy your visit to Glasgow - have fun! |

Okily dokily.. let's take your questions one at time... I've added relevant weblinks to the bottom.
What's it like?
Buzzing, and liveliest city in Scotland, nothing like the sleepy and historical Edinburgh. There are obvious no-go areas like any city, but don't let that put you off. It's a fun, friendly and great place to visit.
Things to do?
Kelingrove Art Gallery and museum is worth a visit, Merchant city is a cool area of bars restaurants, King Tut's Wah Wah hut is a great place for a dance and drink, plus there is always a sightseeing tour to get your bearings and hear a bit of history.. You could even take a day trip to Oban one of the distant islands via sea plane!
How far is the SECC?
It's about a mile from the city centre, but there's a great train service that runs there from the Central Station. Only takes about 10-15mins and drops/picks up right outside the SECC.
Places to stay?
I've listed the Glasgow Hotel Desk below, which should be useful. It lists some guest houses as well as hotels. Personally I prefer to stay in B&Bs and Guest Houses in Scotland because the people are so friendly. |

Glasgow is a large city but has a reasonably compact central area. Glasgow is the second largest shopping location in the UK, but of course much of it is provided by the same high street chains as everywhere else. For something slightly different try the West End (round Byres Road / Ashton Lane for example) and Princes Square (on Buchanan Street). The 15th of December will of course be hectic, so don't go if you don't like crowds.
The Winterfest 2007 will be on in George Square, with a large outdoor ice rink and other seasonal attractions.
Permament tourist attractions include the Kelvingrove Gallery and the Burrell Collection, or the Tenement House, which gives an insight into 19th century living.
The SECC is about a mile from the centre, but there is a train link.
There are lots of places to stay, and also lots of good places to eat - it all depends on your budget! |

Princes Square is just off of buchannan street and is a beautiful designer shopping centre, it is quite expensive in there but there are lovely restaurants up the top where you can go for a meal, i'd suggest Zizi's, beautiful italian food and exquisite decor and views! |

If you want good Hotels near the SECC there is the Moat House and the City Inn, both about a minutes walk, I usually stay at one of these when going to the SECC, the Moat house is the better one with fantastic views over the city. |

I would go with all the above but I have to say dep fried mars is a myth. Ive lived in Glasgow all my life and never walked into a chippy and saw a deep fried mars.
You can get the train to secc from argyle str low level or a bus always runs from Buchanan st bus station on concert nights.
The Merchant city (east of city centre) is not bad for bars and restaurants. The west end is good. The city Inn over at the secc is nice. Not sure of the price The holiday inn express's in the city centre are not bad.
The Burrell, The Science centre, the Kelvingrove art gallery is nice.
If your wondering round buy allday bus ticket for £3. It does you on all the first buses (the white ones) and gets you all over the city. You just get it from the driver.
Hope you have a nice time. It has good bits and bad bits like any city.
Also the blue lagoon chippys only taste ok if your blotto.
If your fancy an Italian go to Lavita on the corner of George Square |

The SECC has its' own railway station(Exhibition Centre) & is probably the best way to get there as trains to/from Central station(Low Level)are pretty frequent(every 10 minutes or so) |

Things to do.
The Kelvingrove museum and art gallery has some of the greatest pictures in the world. (The downside is that they seem to think that Che Guevara was Cuban; coffee is served in plastic cups and the displays are aimed at 8 year olds ..ugh! It used to be better).
The Burrell collection and Pollock House.
The transport museum is not as boring as it sounds.
Eating out is best around Byres Road, but Glasgow is not famous for its food.
The city will be packed out with Christmas shoppers. Join them! The locals think that the shops are wonderful. They don't travel far obviously! But there are some good wee ones.
If Time out has a comic on Glasgow buy it!
You will have a great weekend!

it is a great city, I stay with my daughter when I go to Glasgow, also you could visit Celtic Park for a tour of the stadium known as Paradise/Parkhead,Hampden park as well ( the home of the SFA),also get a taxi to and from the SECC a good chance to get lost, try Travel lodge for accommodation, Get onto the tourist agency, also in the hotels loads of places to go to propaganda, avoid the deep fryed mars bar, the blue lagoon is the place for fish suppers, loads of good curry houses as well |
