www.wasdale.com

Here. It“s gorgeous. You can either camp or they have a lovely hotel. The scenery is amazing and it“s less touristy than the rest of the Lakes. From there you“re in easy reach of Ennerdale, Buttermere, Eskdale etc which I think are the most lovely parts. There“s also Ravenglass and a Roman bathhouse nearby.

If you want to take the scenic route, drive to Coniston then over Hardnott and Wrynose passes to Eskdale. Its a fantastic drive and there“s a Roman fort on Hardnott. If you fancy a night in Eskdale, there“s a lovely inn called King George VI (http://www.kinggeorge-eskdale.co.uk/). The rooms are lovely, they will do you a packed lunch if you want to go for a walk and their food is great.

Have fun!

Lake District is great try www.openroads.com a good place to start or Linkhouse.co.uk or just go on the web and put in Lake District short breaks. It is not that far from your area.
Windermere and Ambleside are more touristy, depends what you want. There are some really nice secluded places, Buttermere is lovely and so is Grasmere

The Lake District - fantastic views and walks. Not entirely sure where the less touristy areas are though.

Find a local hotel and stay in your room all weekend. That way you can pretend you are wherever you want to be in the world!
