Should 'brothels' be made legal in the UK?

I watched on TV last night a programme on crime & it was about 'business girls' on the street, 2 had been murdered one never found. The man was caught.

Yes, I think brothels should be legal, as many women are treated in a coercive manner, illegally and, as you say, people are murdered or injured whilst on the street - an organised place would provide more protection from this, and help reduce police time, as well as reduce issues for local residents.

As the state is happy to take the taxes from such business ladies it should also be willing to condone private premises that are used for their work, whilst increasing their protection - these ladies are probably working in one of the highest risk professions.

Hope this helps and that you're well. Good luck! Rob

Yes, I have no idea why it isn't already legal. I don't agree with prostitution and would rather it not exist but it does exist, has existed for thousands of years and will never be eradicated-as they say, it's the world's oldest profession. Legalizing it would mean that it could be taxed, and the money spent on education and health services. Some of the money could also be spent on on STD testing for the girls, vaccinations, free condom distibution and HIV testing etc. Legalized brothels would cut the risk of harm on both sides, with security guards or the like protecting both parties involved. Drug addicts visiting clinics could be given advice and information on help and rehab available. I know in some countries sex workers are legal but have to be licenced and STD checks are compulsory. Making brothels legal seems to be the lesser of the two evils to me - better than being driven underground and all the dangers that come with it.

Yes, In my opinion brothels should be made legal here in the uk. There are always going to be some men that want sex or anything else they are willing to pay for. If brothels were legal, this would mean that girls no longer had to work on the street. They would be working in a safe environment, because brothels I am sure would somehow vet their customers, and also ban the undesirables.

In addition, you would no longer have kerb crawlers looking for a working girl on the street. This could potentially reduce the number of perverts as at the moment anyone that is caught with a working girl is fined, etc., and as a result of potentially being caught they are reluctant to perhaps pay for sex. So if a brothel is legal, then a man can get his kicks by paying for sex or whatever he chooses without the fear of being caught.

There is also the point that rape attacks on innocent girls/women could be reduced, as men will have a safe environment to visit and will not be kerb crawling, etc., looking for someone to have sex with, whether willing of unwilling.

Not sure whether all this will make sense to you all, but I am most definitely in favour of brothels being legal. We are now in the 21st century, so there is no reason not to as sex, etc., does not need to be kept in the closet and a dark disgusting secret.

Its 2008 of course they should be made legal... Whats wrong with this outdated country... It would be healthy for those that go there and for the girls that work there... Then we could clean the streets for good of the other scruffy lot that want the money for drugs etc. Almost every other country have legal brothels...Why not England.???

learning the lesson
yes I do..

yes, it should be - it would keep the working girls safe and would take the job from the street, which can cause offence to the residents - its never going to be stopped, so time we faced up to it and make it as safe as possible for all involved

yes, then we would be able to call in for a bowl of broth when it was cold

No way, most brothels are run by illegal immigrants and the women who work in them might as well be slaves working for pennys so no way i am against this one

chowbaby
no i don't think they should .the country is in enough of a mess as it is.
