We do not speak American, watch American movies from choice, listen to American songs from choice, or anything else American especially when we have home-grown stuff that is much better. We had them as colonials at one time and one of the best things to happen for us was to lose them - it also gave us somewhere to send all our undesirables and down-and-outs.

In fact we are quite teed off with their poor attempts at imitating us they try to speak and write English and even claim it is English but the fact is they just haven't a clue.

PROOF I started this off by calling you a three letter word starting with A and ending with a couple of Ss. Yahoo being American thinks this refers to a part of your anatomy and (to them) is an obscenity and has deleted it and replaced it with ***. It is an English word for a quadruped of the horse family which is reputed to be not very bright.

Becuase there is no need to: as you said they speak english , watch american movies and Bleur sucks up to Bush (it is ideal)

Yes dear, we can tell you're American, English people speak lemme think now, that's a really tough one isn't it, oh yeah ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if we spoke American we'd say color, flavor, rotary, popsicle (hehe funny word), we'd call jelly, jello and jam, jelly and lots of other stuff too. We watch American FILMS because America makes the majority of them, we buy from lots of different countries companies not just American ones, we don't do everything American we don't pollute as much, we don't start wars over oil, we don't have driving lessons at school, we aren't all super fat or super skinny or super stupid. England doesn't have a specific accent, that would be like saying an American accent when I know that a Texan and a Californian speak differently. How about you swim over here and say all that to our faces, hopefully you drown on the way!!!!!!!

just because you Yanks think we English are becoming Americanised you think we should become the United States of Englandshire, anyway, why do you only want England? What's wrong with Scotland? Wales? Ireland? The Channel Islands? All the other British colonies?

The English DO NOT speak American, the English speak English, we had the language before the Americans, the Americans corrupted it! I try to buy British if I can, fair enough, I sometimes take my son to KFC and MacDonalds for a treat, but I would much rather go to an English restaurant or cafe as I can usually tell what is in their food.

Stop trying to Americanise us!
And please try to learn to spell.....eg colour, humour, honour etc etc.

Er, why? Are you really as ignorant as your question suggests? In England, we speak English, you Americans speak something which you claim to be English, there is no such language as American. There are only slight differences as there are within England and the rest of the British Isles. Let's see what music I have here, hmmm, The Kinks, English, Chris de Burgh, Irish, Bob Marley, Jamaican, Bryan Adams, Canadian, The Beatles, English, nope, sorry, can't find anything American there. Films, I like Harry Potter, which is English. What is your problem with the accent? There are a number of different English accents and dialects, American is annoying(every American accent I have heard is annoying, and I have heard several). Most of the goods I buy are English, my computer was mostly made in Europe, though some of the software might be American(probably ripped off from Japan or somewhere else). I would rather go to an Italian, Indian or Chinese restaurant than to one of the American fastfood chains. So, I think you may have your facts just slightly, completely wrong. I am English, there is still very much an English culture, not all of us want to be like you foolish Americans.

Now why do you think that the rest of the world does not really like you yanks? I am well aware that you have asked this question just to provoke a reply that even a dumb **** like you would have anticipated, however when my sister was in mannasas an American asked her how it was that a foreigner like her spoke such good English. As she has a University degree in that very subject from , Sit down if you are standing as it will be a shock to you, an English University she asked him not unnaturally where he thought the english language came from and he did not know. Further more you do not learn american in your schools but it is known as English even in america, the bloke that my sister was talking to must have been a relative of yours

We do not speak American. American is just another spin off of the English language. I feel quite insulted by this posting. I have American friends in AZ and NY and have always held the view that we are allies. Is your choice of word, "annexed" another word for take over? Is this the attitude that has set half the world against America? I wonder. I sincerely hope that your question is purely out of devilment and intended to be humorous.

Well truth conveys that I was born of American Father and English Mother and have dual nationality,so i can speak with experience and confirm that this questioner is what is called in English a "wind up merchant" ...He comes from New York and has never been any further than the brooklyn bridge so he is speaking from pure Ignorance ...Not like most of the Brits who are well traveled and are a Multi Cultural society .The British also have the greatest sense of humour in the World ...Just to finish off ...If the person who asked this question had any sense of history he would know that almost everything that he takes for granted i.e Cars,Television,helicopters,hovercraft,T... list Is endless were invented by Brits and most of the worlds inventions come from Europe ..

Have you been there? I doubt it, as you dont seem to be aware of the rich accents which range from Sussex, Cornwall to the Scots, sorry I cant forget the Welsh, Geordies and Liverpuddlians. Great Britain brings the World great comedies(Fawlty Towers...), movies (Train Spotting, anything with Judy Dench in it),and a great tradition of music from the Beatles to Led Zeppelin. Just because some misguided british politicians align with GWB, doesnt mean that they are keen to lose their identity. Oh, and I'm not even a pom but proud of my own heritage.
