What's Monkey on about? (sorry,Monkey) Brighton is buzzing! There's loads of things on every week,a good train service into London with very cheap rates for an evening return ticket (cheap for Britain, anyway),and night buses running,so you might not even need a taxi when you get back from London at 1am. There's a good train service along the south coast, too, for Southampton and Portsmouth, and regular buses to Eastbourne for Beachy Head (and paragliding along the cliffs,if you want) and to Newhaven or Dover for the ferries to France. Rents in Brighton are cheaper than London. There's a huge variety of shops, cafes, gigs, clubs, whatever you need, and there's a lot of people living there who are not gay. If you don't look for it,you'll probably not even notice the gay community. The 'gay' slur has just developed into a habit, like saying the North is rougher than the South. In fact, one of the friendliest cities in Britain is Liverpool. Brighton is friendly, too, and fun on a good day,but it can be a bit wet and miserable through the winter, just like London or anywhere else in UK. Mostly,it's OK.The sports and leisure centres are OK too. One of them is a bit out of town, at Moulscombe, but the facilities are great. Around the pier area there are beach parties through the summer, and occasionally in winter,(try that on the Thames!),and the University of Sussex brings loads of young people from round the world to add to the mix. Brighton is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Britain. Why not try a week-end there? St.Christopher's backpacker on the Promenade is a cheap place to stay and it's pretty good,or there's loads of B&B's,as you'd expect, with cheaper rates in the winter. The pubs are very varied, from old oak-beamed places like the Black Horse to the super-modern. Well worth a look. |

Depends....what do you prefer? are you outgoing or like peace and quiet? i live near north london (Essex) and i know that London is a really rough place, though it has the best theatres, pubs and clubs, and restaurants, shops...etc...
Brighton is a great seaside place and fun to be at, i go there on holiday, must get boring there after a while though....its basically for tourists........ |
