It doesn't make sense for Scotland. Scotland doesn't have the economy or population to support itself at it's current standards.
As things stand Scotland's budget (the money for health care, education and other functions provided by the state) exceeds the tax revenue that is generated from within Scotland. The rest comes from England (to be precise, most of it comes from South East England. The area between North London and the South coast, which is the most economically productive area of the UK).
If Scotland were to declare independence from England this money would vanish, and so would the ability of the Scottish state to support itself. |

Why? Will Scotland have it's own military? How about various social/welfare programs - can Scotland afford it - or will it just increase taxes because there are fewer people to tax.
Being independent isn't cheap. |

Yes we should have independence. You would benefit from a teaching system not funded ultimately by Westminster, which may account for your bad grammar. |

Never....just look at this present crisis, where would Scots have got all the dosh to bail out HBOS and RBoS. Had to go cap in hand to London for that pile. Stay United Kingdom, thats what I say. |

Scotland would be as inept at independence as you are at spelling. |

Yet more fantasy rubbish from Meilien regarding the mighty South East. The entire UK ploughs money into the South East. Whisky exports earns the UK £90 per second. Not a penny of it is counted as a Scots contribution! That's just one example.
- "Scotland on Sunday and Scottish Television, in a joint investigation, turned the spotlight on the real junkie - the south east of England where billions of pounds of taxpayers' money are sunk without a whisper of public dissent." |
