Should train companies assign one or more carriages to 'families only' for long distance journeys? |
They have (or had) smoking carriages for trains that do long distance journeys (Virgin, GNER, Midland Mainline, First great Western etc) - should they perhaps consider including a 'family carriage' for people with young children?
i had to spend 5 hours on a train from London to Glasgow surrounded by mothers with small screaming, crying children - it really wasn't pleasant. I nearly smacked one of the little brats when he came to me with jam-covered fingers and trying to climb on my lap.
Would anyone else prefer if all these parents and children were put in a separate carriage away from the rest of us who just want to be left in peace and not covered in jam and dribble? Most of these trains have a silent carriage - maybe they need a noisy carriage too? Additional Details Yes I agree more parents should control their kids, although this is difficult when they're throwing a proper tantrum.
But this is a more socially acceptable solution to the problem - personally I think all kids should be sedated and locked in a box for the duration of long journeys, but I don't think many people would be too keen on that idea! |

Family carriage - Good idea! Not only would those without children be able to travel in peace for the duration, it would also benefit those with children to know that they wouldn't have to keep worrying about the comfort of passengers travelling without children, as this too can be very stressful for conscientious parents. School-age children should know how to behave in this situation, but it can be very hard on parents with infants, as they become bored very quickly and those who've had children know all about the 'terrible twos'! (And we were all 2 years old once!). |

God Yes! I hate being stuck in a closed space with Kids... Nothing against mothers n all that hope to be one someday... But I don't need kids that aren't mine screaming and shouting in my ear!! And Mothers never answer their kids!! Why?? I had a kid scream "mam" for 10 minutes on a train! |

First Great Western do - see http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Content.aspx?id=63
The problem is you cant control who goes where on a train if they do not have reservations |

No, people should learn to control their kids!! |

Hell is other people's kids!
I actually think it is a fantastic idea. Could we also have one for those idiots who think the rest of us like their 'music' or can't manage without showing off their new mobile?
I'm quite mouthy when kids bug me and don't hesitate in telling them to go away. One parent said it was her job to discipline her child - I agree, go away and do your job, don't leave it to me. I actually think they should have cages in the guards van (or secure part of the train) to put the little brats in - and soundproof it! |

I totally agree but you'll get mothers all up in arms that you suggested that their little bundle of joy isn't the perfect, delightful little angel they think they are
perhaps a 'no families' carriage would be more PC? suggesting that it's us that should be segregated as we're clearly the anti-social ones... |

I totally agree. With the total lack of discipline on the part of the parents nowadays, they and their offspring should be confined to separate carriages with no access to the rest of the train except for toilets. Then maybe after one or two trips like that they might learn to keep hold of their offspring and prevent them for interfering with passengers who have paid an exorbitant price for a ride in comparative peace - and before the do-gooders poke their two-pennorth in, I KNOW the parents have paid too, but that's no excuse to let their kids run riot up and down the train thus leaving the parents in peace! ! ! |

It's certainly an interesting idea. I'm not against people having children, although I do think parents need to make more of an effort to control their kids.
Certainly why shouldn't rail companies have a family carriage? |
|

Just passing the time!

thats a good idea. its a nightmare on trains with kids! |
