Some suggestions about what to see at London? |
Hello,
I am coming to London next thursday, 31/8 up to 7th sept. Just one week unfortunately. I feel that quite more days would be necessary to see that marvelous city. Is any special suggestion you can give me where to go to? suggestions of whom lives there and know the areas, places where good to go.
Any suggestion, then, on this, would be quite appreciated. |

It depends on what you like doing.
There are all the museums:
Dinosaurs and Animals The Natural History
The Science Museum for hand on activity
The British Museum for artifacts
The V.A. clothes has an exhibition of the 60's at the moment but has all clothes through out history
The Imperial War Museum Planes etc
The Museum of London self explanatory
To name just a few.
Art Galleries
The Tate Modern
Tate Britain
National Gallery
Again there are others.
Places of interest:
Westminster Abbey
The London Eye
The Aquarium
London Zoo
Madame Tussuad's (expensive)
Various markets.
The best thing to do would be look through the guide books to find what you enjoy.
Have a good time, if your going around on the underground then it is worth getting maybe a weekly travel card this allows underground and buses.
Look after precious items and if possible go inside banks to withdraw cash as the ATM are not always safe. |

You can totally see all the best bits in a week. Get a map and wear comfy shoes, central London is pretty easy to walk around.
Tower Bridge is a must, it's a beautiful landmark. There are various shopping wharfs nearby along the river (south) which are nice to walk around (towards London Bridge). If the weather's nice take a walk up the Mall from Trafalgar Square and through St James' Park to Buckingham Palace. Spend a day hanging out round the West End - get the tube to Covent Garden and spend some time there, then walk through Leicester Square to Piccadilly Circus, then head up for some drinks in Soho. Avoid Oxford Street like the plague...instead head for the Kings Road in Chelsea for high street shopping (Sloane Sq tube) or Camden Lock or Portobello Road on the weekends for market shopping.
The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are worth a look (and are free) if that's your thing. Have fun!!! |

No doubt you know or have been told by now about Tower of London, Westminister Abby etc, but dont forget to go to Harrods in Knightsbridge, its THE most wondeful store and heaps to see, dont forget the memorial to Lady Diana and Dodi Faiad, and if you are there in the afternoon you might well see Mr Fyad sorry not sure of the correct spelling he in case you didnt know owns the store, he will be escorted right round the store by his body guards hes the tiniest man that was a shock to me, Id only ever seen him on TV he always looked quite tall then lol, enjoy ya trip!! |

Oh so many places! Go NOW to the store and get Rick Steves London tour book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Places I would suggest include:
British Museum
British Library
Imperial War Museum (My favorite)
Buckingham Palace (changing of the guards)
Double Decker bus tours (Good for 24-48 hours, use as transportation plus usually good tour guides aboard).
Westminster Abbey
St Paul's Cathdrel
Tower of London
London Eye
Trafalgar Square
National Gallery
Picadilly Circus and the Trocadero (I prefer staying right at Picadilly Circus at Le Meridian Picaddily).
Check out Big Ben.
Those would be my must see places. Also, take in Trafalgar square & Picadilly Circus at nighttime. I love the vibe. |

You HAVE to see the British Museum. The National Portrait gallery and the Tate Gallery are also interesting, as is the view from the London Eye.
Remember, have a nice stay, but don't stand in the doorways of the tube! Everybody hates you for it! |

Get yourself an "Oyster" card. That will enable you to travel on all forms of public transport for (comparatively!) nothing, and that way you'll be able to see absolutely everything you want. Ignore the pleb remarks about the filth and the vagrants and enjoy yourself. |
