My son is going to America for new year and we (is parents) would like to get is girl friend a gift not to expensive something that will fit in is suit case ok.

We want the item to be some thing "MADE IN ENGLAND" not something with an english name made in China.

I think it would me more to sent something British, i know we dont seem to make a lot these day's.

Some nice English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea bags ....

Light yet very english ......something that's easy to carry in luggage and inexpensive too ;)

Well you are giving her the best gift made in England - your son!! (ok he won't fit in the suitcase lol) So - depending on how serious the relationship is....... how about a little homemade *english* cookbook with some of the recipes that your son likes (you could do that on the computer).........Does she like music? is there something available there original by and different by Elton John or the Beatles?.......... The Royal Dalton idea was good - I have those also..........Go to one of the local shops maybe they will have some idea's for you if you don't see an idea in the answer's here - good luck.

PG Tips tea bags! (although I suppose technically they are from India) I always take a supply when I go abroad.

There are tons of Tshirts that they sell with logos of London on them

How about a small piece of "china". Wedgwood and places like that still make wonderful gifts and such.

The new Badly Drawn Boy CD: "Born in the UK"

A Harrod's Teddy (available online and quite reasonable)

Everything else I can think of might be either a bit big or a bit expensive.

however much I agree with most of the answers here about English stuff, I would say that it doesn't matter where it was made or produced. It's a gift representing your love to her. Unless you think that you may look more glorified when your son holds a gift genuinly made in England.

I wouldn't spend money on something which only has the name 'made in England' on it, and yet not very useful or valuable as a gift. If your boy's girl friend is an American then I would imagine she is open to products from all over the world.

What about some marmite? Or some turkey flavoured walkers crisps so you're spreding the Christmas vibe as well!

Or a bull dog........................
