I think they cause more accident because your constantly staring at your speed and not the road! |

Evelyn has summed it up.
When they put them outside schools, *then* I'll agree to them being in the middle of nowhere on long straight stretches of road like they usually are...
And as for the "average speed cameras"... Don't get me wrong, I know that we need to go slower in road-works so as not to accidentally kill a workman, and I'm fine with that. But when they finish work at 6pm, why are there still speed limits?
You can get off a single-lane B road with a 60mph limit onto a 3-lane motorway with a 40mph limit.
It's insane. |

They started off as genuine, but once the income stream was realised they put them in the most likely places to earn. The money from the fine is split three ways... Police, local Council and the local NHS trust. So three parties benefit from the scam.
Scameras have beaten traffic wardens into 2nd place for the most hated traffic related thing in the UK.
The statistics of live saving/accident reduction before or after the introduction of scameras show no improvement whatsoever.
The most serious speeding is done by chavs in stolen cars, and they really bother about scameras don't they?
We should copy that Dutch group that go round setting fire to them, or filling them with expanding foam. |

They are supposed to be where a serious accident has accrued, but this isn't the case. Nottingham have average cameras all along the ring road, which wasn't dangerous before and no safer now. |

If people never broke the speed limit (thereby breaking the law and endangering lives) there would be no need for speed cameras. |

i think they are just put anywhere to make money. some do save lives but now they have to many. Also those new "spec speed cameras"(i think they're called) are just another way of getting more and more money. It's like their very own cash machine |

Some are in blackspots but the majority would appear to be put where the authorities think they can generate the most income... |

In the right place they save life's but in the wrong place a gold mine. |

Some blackspots are covered but defo not near all of them. Some are pretty randomly placed though. |

I welcome them. They remind me to keep within the limits, which I have no objection to doing for the sake of pedestrians. |

There are not nearly enough of them; people drive far too fast, which is why over 3,000 per year die on British roads; penalties for speeding are far too lax too; driving skills of most are poor; a more difficult driving test plus the need to re-take it every 10 years would help. |

Speed cameras are there for a reason. When it is 30 miles and hour speed limit sign is up...is for a reason. I don't think they just put it up for fun. |
