St Ives, Cornwall - ever been?

I'm off to St Ives in Cornwall on 26th May. I have surfing lined up for a day or two plus a visit to the Eden Project another day. Does anyone have any suggestions of other days out I can go on with a 10 and 17 year old? Also, any recommendations for fab restaurants - money no object - just want good food!

Check out www.TheTopTenSite.com They have a really great section on Cornwall and St Ives is one of the main towns featured. I highly recommend it. It lists the top ten everything in the area and gives lots of ideas for things to do etc.

I grew up in cornwall, if you have a car there are loads of places to go. Cornwall doesn't really have theme parks but does have fab beaches, woods etc. Just jump in the car and see where you end up you can coast to coast in twenty minutes from portreath to falmouth. Food wise theres alittle restaurant on carn brea (between camborne and redruth) in the castle, food is grand. also lots of seafood places mevagissey. mousehole, penzance enjoy yourselves. st I ves is great just far too many uphill car parks for my liking lol

go to sennen cove, about 12mile from stives. great surfing, fantastic big massive plate of food at the old succsess inn. you might even see the dolphins there. lands end is just around the corner from there too. plus in may go to porthcurno beach you might even see the basking sharks there.

I've been there many, many times, though not for nearly five years now. I'm so jealous of you.
There is so much to do but it helps if you have a car.
Carbis Bay is really nice, just around the corner from St. Ives (actually in St. Ives Bay) and there is a lovely fish and chip place on the main road from St. Ives.
The Bucket Of Blood pub in Hayle is also a nice place to eat. Just mind the low ceilings, I've banged my head a few times.

Newqauy zoo is an excellent day out and is not too far from St Ives. The aquarium there is also very nice.
Lands End is worth a visit, just for the view also.
There is a fabulous restaurants in Newquay, but unfortunately I can't remeber what it is called, right on the outskirts of Newquay, to the left of the town cetre if you are facing the sea. I will update this if I remeber what it's called.
Oh, and also, a boat trip to seal island is great, again this goes from Newqauy but it's not much of a drive from St Ives.
Hope you have a lovely holiday. ( I love Cornwall, wish I was there now)

In Newquay, Jamie Oliver has just opened 15 Cornwall, apparently it is superb. You could also do some surfing whilst in Newquay.

St Ives is one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall, the surfing is excellent and brilliant for all age groups, there is so much to see and do there, the restaurants are very, very good too, try the one on the beach its beautiful, excellent food and all the celebs go there too so you never know who you might see, get the train from St Ives to Newquay its not far away and there is tons to do there too, have a fantastic holiday.

Yeah I was there at Easter! Didn't surf, though. Didn't meet a man with seven wives either.

My food advice is this: eat indoors! I was eating a pasty on a bench by the seaside and a seagull swooped down and grabbed it out of my hand, inches from my mouth, knocked off my glasses and scared the (whatever) out of me!

We really liked The Lizard and also the castle at St Mawes.

st ives is really nice - altho when i went it was raining and my boyf got in a mood coz it was hard to find somewhere to park! but its a really lovely fishing village/town. Not sure about restaurants but there are tons all along the front so you wont have a prob!

Eden project is good - very overpriced and wouldnt go again but worth a visit.

i really love the southern fishing villages of Polperro and Looe (sp!?) - nice to just amble around them.

Enjoy the fish and chips i lived off them for a whole week. Penzanse and lands end are also a great place to visit!! I went to st ives a few years back when i was 16 and loved it!!
