No of course not. It's a part of English heritage. If you want a tram ride and fireworks, then go elsewhere. It's a shame they have to protect it from vandals and other such idiots who would rather spray paint their initials than respect history.

Stonehenge is not a theme park,its part of our heritage and should be viewed as such. It is doubtful if the designers and builders thought of the mindless masses addicted to electronic entertainment.
For the person who found the food disapponting, suggest you go for the traditional rather than the copied US fast food, and dont eat in tourist areas.

It depends on what you like. Some people go there expecting excitement and get there and just see some old stones. However other people love it and study the stones for hours imagining why they were built.

It is cordoned off so to protect the ancient stones. It is an ancient monument, which you get a real feel for if you breathe and take in the surroundings and atmosphere of the place. I have been there, yes, and thought the taped guide was good, but it would be so much better if we could touch the stones. Unfortunately we can't, because it needs to be (rightly) protected. It is part of our ancient heritage.

As for some of the previous answers - if you want bright lights and lots of entertainment, Stonehenge isn't for you. But if you want to learn something and feel the history of a place, then you will probably find it interesting.

P.S. Regarding the comment by one answerer about food in the UK, I don't know where you ate, but I think you'll find there are wonderful places to eat here in the UK, with healthy and interesting food. And a lot of people cook very well, and imaginatively, in their own homes here, actually.

Oh yes, and I agree with one answerer - the Angel of the North is a monstrosity. Talk about no taste.

Well, the survey was only 1400 people, so hardly a representative sample; maybe Newyorkgal was one of them? And if you consider that this same group considered The Backs in Cambridge to be the 5th most interesting site in Britain, and decided that the Egyptian pyramids were overrated - well!!!!

If people stop to think for a moment then they would realise what an amazing construction Stonehenge really is, the efforts involved in making it and it's true significance.

And, sorry, but I quite like the Angel of the North as well!!

I'm no brain dead disneylander and I honestly can't tell you what I expected to get from the visit,but I left with a distinct feeling of ......is that it?
If the stones were better understood it could be more interesting,as it is they're just a load of old rocks that leave you guessing

Like i said ....i don't know,but i was referring to something spiritual maybe and not a half baked reply from a thumbs down pillock

Well I guess it depends on the person. Quite honestly I would not go out of my way to see a bunch of rocks. So if you choose to do so I hope you like rocks. Of all the sites to see in Europe why would you even plan to go there?

I thought it was too antiseptic. We were herded in there like cows and given little machines to listen to history about the rocks. The historical concept and ancient uses of the stones are fascinating but the Brits have made the site extremely boring. I was disappointed when I first saw Stonehenge in June 2007.
