Yes, there is no doubt that Liverpool is the jewel of England - it's a world class city famous throughout the world and came to the attention of the world first as a major seaport - the major seaport of England actually and then in the 20th Century it regained world fame due entirely to the good work of the Beatles.

Maybe not the city but the people.Beatles,Cilla Black,Ken Dodd and many others.Music and humour and a sense of "my city".Football helps as well.As for the jewel of England,there are miles of derilict docks and rows of boarded up houses.High unemployment and drugs and a high crime rate.The reality is not the same as the perception and even the Beatles moved out as fast as they could.I take it that you have never been there.If you do,don't take your car!
