You'll have a great time.

Try the Adelpi mid day/mid week, 2 for 5 pounds in an old traditional hotel.
Good buffet/ cavery style meal in a nice room.

If you are staying in the city, there are loads of hotels most reasonable some very expensive. It is a grand city, lots to do and see. Loads of fantastic resteraunts, pubs, clubs, everthing for ever taste. Cavern, museums, albert dock, just everthig and its all over. you will enjoy it. Take no notice of the negative comment you have had, as with everywhere you go, take care.

Krazy House is fantastic if you're a rocker, nation if you're a dancer Bumper's if you're after some cheese. Something cool to do is to climb the tower of the older looking cathedral - it costs about £1.50 but the veiws are amazing and there's lifts pretty much all the way up there.

Pop over to Chester 18 miles down the road.
Better everything, clubs, pubs restaurants and its a fantastic city, loads to see and do.
Liverpool, is a bit dodgy for a night out but OK for daytime.

Give our regards to all the Liverpuddlians. (My favorite word variation for residents of a place...you'd think it would be "Liverpoolers".)

A fabulous place to eat is Heart and Soul at 62 Mount Pleasant. The food is great and the service too. Depends on things you like to drink but if there are a few excellent real ale pubs - Doctor Duncan's, The Ship and Mitre and Thomas Rigbys are all great.

Not too sure about dancing as I tend to spend most of my time doing the other two!

Have fun
