Bournemouth is a good choice, you're choosing a place where a lot of the English go on holiday, so you can't go far wrong.
it is also has great facilities and is safe (different world to London)
can I also put in a mention for my county ,Oxfordshire. I would say do a lot of research on places beyond just hearsay though, a lot of the opinions you get are bound to be a bit biased. |

That's not true! I'm English and would welcome an American! It's not an individual's fault that Bush is a muppet! Views like the above are totally racist and not at all helpful!
With regards to somewhere to live, have a look at the East Midlands; Leicester (as mentioned above), Sheffield or Derby (avoid Nottingham, it's not great). They're all nice places to live, near to London, very close to the Peak District and also within a 5 hour drive of places like Cornwall, the Lake District and Wales.
I live in Derby and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. It's a great city, I can get everywhere I want to be and there's tons of work around.
Hope you find somewhere nice :-) |

I agree with one of the last answers; as a Brit we would welcome you warmly! But be warned though, Real Estate and the cost of living is very expensive (especially in the South of England)..... |

I live near Sheffield and I think its definitely worth looking at. There are tons of great sport and exercise places; swimming baths, sports centres, bowling, Hallam FM Arena, also a stadium that has great entertainment, a great ice rink. It also has Cineworld, an amazing cinema located within a complex of restaurants, a bowling alley and arcades. It also has Meadowhall, in my opinion the best place to shop. Google it, it really has all the shopping places you need under one roof!
Not only that but it is close to the Peak District, an area of beautiful countryside.
It has a great tram system throughout Sheffield.
I personally love Sheffield!!! Definitely worth researching. |

Try Bristol.
It has two main shopping districts - Broadmead in the centre and Cribbs Causeway is an out-of-town shopping centre to the north.
And 5 miles from the city centre is open countryside :) |

I am planning a move to Leicestershire, where my b/f lives. It is in the East Midlands, about 2 hours or so north of London. It is beautiful there, clean, friendly, etc...(I have been there several times.) Many villages to choose from! Give it a look! :) I guess it really all depends on what you are looking for, where you can find work, where you can actually afford to live, etc.. lol Have you looked into work over there? Or your visa and work permit? They aren't easy to get lol. A good place to start would be www.uk-yankee.com.
Good luck!

Are you brave or just plain stupid? You're American and want to live in England? I hope you don't expect too warm a welcome. Living here is not the same as visiting London for a week. Once outside London, you face the wrath of the white British people that are still fuming at America dragging the British troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. We are still fuming at all the lies that came from the US to justify the wars. We are still fuming that time and time again, US intelligence leads our forces up the wrong path. There is a lot of anger towards the USA but when you visit London, you don't notice it as well over 50% of London is now occupied by foreign nationals and they don't care abouit this country, it's people or what happens in the world. However, live outside London and you will have to live with people that are resentful. People that care for this country and it's people. The British people do not like warmongers that run their economy through war and suffering, selling arms and starving farmers. I agree with what has already been suggested, find a better place in the US to live, even with all your guns, slaughtering of schoolchildren, murders, robberies etc. etc. you will feel more comfortable there. |
