I have lived in London for the last 33 years and unfortunately there are no such things as a cheap places to live in London, you would have a lot more luck if you try just outside London like Mitchem or Streatham. Not the most glamorous places but not quite a ghetto.

AC
Its an expensive city. You don't say where you're moving from but be prepared for the increased expenses!!
That said - I've been living outside UK for past 5 years going back for holidays approx once a year and I have to say that these is definitely and undeniable excitement about living there..
Not too clued up on the textile industry but in a city as vibrant as london I'm sure you'll find something too suit. I'd go with previous suggestions to live just outside central London somewhere.. I always lived in the South but Nth London is more 'the place to be' these days.. Good luck.. Nothing like giving yourself a scare every so often - keeps you young!

Been in London for 10 years (originally from Paris). And i am getting fed up of big city. London can be quite fun at the beginning but then the reality soon hits you. Even with a job, most people cannot afford to live on their own. Unless they ve have the right to have a council flat which is unlikely if you are British or not white trash.

It takes you forever to get from one place to another. The city is too big but the centre is relatively small. In fact outside zone 1, London is a dive! Good thing though, it's quite easy to get a job.

ask yourself, am i mad?, if the answer is yes then move to london...

GO!! If I were you I would love to go and live in London. My whole family on my fathers side is from there. Now i can't help you with places to live or anything like that but if you love what you do you will go.

FRANCIS247
its not cheap to rent .
the further out of london it gets cheaper.
example Watford is ok and there are regular trains and buses in and out of london.
average around harrow area for rent is 300-350 a month
thats for a bedsit probably share kitchen and bathroom.
flats around 500- 800 a month 1 bedroom
good luck

Vampire
My advice....DON'T! It's expensive everywhere, expensive to live, expensive to go out, it's crowded, noisy, smelly and hugely over rated!
If you want to live in a bustling, happening city, then I'd recommend Cardiff! I had to move there for my job, and once I got there, found it had everything (almost) that I could get in London, but cheaper, nicer and cleaner! I was gutted when I had to move away from Cardiff (again due to my job) but if they tried to send me back to London again, I'd quit! Basically it's a sh*t hole!

Wolverine
Unfortunately, rentals are not inexpensive in London and you may have to consider a flat/ house share until you find a job.
I can recommend West London,

Between Ealing and White city, you may find a room for GBP 115 pcm. It will go further down, as you travel further away fm central london. In a worse case scenario, you may consider bedsit at least until you find a job

Ps. don't know much about textiles industry here. Good luck anyway

North-East London can have some very cheap rentals, particularly Leyton and Walthamstow.

It might take you a while to get used to the 'unfriedly' Londoner's though.

I've lived here all my life but a lot of my friends/workmates moved to London in their adult lives and have commented on this.

Despite that they all love London!

I say do it mate!! Live my dream until I can!

In my opinion London is the world's greatest city, however you pay a price for that. Rental and property is ridiculously expensive. If you just want to get into london to start off, look here - www.spareroom.co.uk

Absolutly do it!
