To Americans - what is your opinion of Manchester, U.K.? Good or bad?

I've heard Manchester has a bad press in the U.S. because of crime, etc. I think its a great city though. Your opinions please?
p.s. Manchester is my home town.

I've never heard anything negative about Manchester, be proud of your city.

Manchester is like the best city in the world because of Manchester United.

manchester sounds good to me. no probs here. i've been in harlem, queens, brooklyn, east oakland, north philly. people were for the most part cool. if you;re scared, just stay at home.

mom
I have not heard anything about your town. If you like it then I would not worry about other people's opinion of it.

asshu
man its a complete rocking plkacve. a must visit place.

Before I moved to England from Canada nine years ago, all I knew about Manchester was that the army killed pro-democracy protesters in 1819. So my opinion was negative, but I went to the city on my first weekend there and I now have favourable feelings towards it.

What is the U.K.'s opinion of Porterville, PA, USA

Yikes!
I don't know alot about Manchester, but I have heard nothing bad on our end. How do people in Manchester feel about Grand Rapids, Michigan?

I am an American who lived in England when I was a teenager and have been back several times for visits as an adult. I have to say, I have never been to Manchester. It isn't that there isn't any bad press or a bad reputation, it is more a lack of reputation. There are so many famous places to visit in the UK and Manchester just has no draw for me.

I've heard of Manchester, but have not heard of any news or stories about it. So I guess my opinion of it would be the same as the rest of the U.K... And my opinion of the U.K. in general is pretty good (even though I think the reverse -- your opinion of us -- isn't good at all). But all in all, your culture is very similar to ours. We listen to the same type of rock music, watch the same movies, and pretty much have a very close culture.

Manchester is really a great city, i have been there twice.

Manchester is all right with me cuz you are there. ^^

Speaking as a Yank from New York, I find it laughable that anyone from the states would have the nerve to comment on crime anywhere else in the world.

Let's get together and have a beer sometime!

I'm not American, I'm from the North East, but I lived in Manchester for 4 years (Fallowfield, Rusholme then Longsight) and I think it's a top notch place with great people. I lived in some supposedly 'rough' areas and I came across virtually no crime at all.

stuckinamoment
I really don't hear any mention of Manchester over here in the U.S. You have a famous soccer (football) team though, right?
