To all the British people? |
How on earth have you managed to stay happy in Uk. It is raining, overcast, getting dark already. For how long roundabout 6 months hey. Ohhh and another thing, i was always under the impression British people are white of skin, no son, but most of the people i see on tv etc have got tan's. Do you go on Holiday to Spain how many times a year to stay so tanned.
Is it true that most Brits have fish and chips on a Friday. My Brother in SA always sends me a message on a Friday saying enjoy your fish and chips and dont forget your weekly bath.:)))) Don't take that too personal, that is what some Brits in SA told us.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, remember don't drink and drive:))) |

Weather is not really that important. I've got a hood on my coat and a nice warm house.
Without the dark how would you appreciate the light?
The tans? I'm as pasty as F*ck!
I did have fish and chips today (avec mushy peas) but last week I had a tuna sandwich.
As for weekly bath - don't be stupid - it's not Sunday you know!
Don't need to D & D, 15 pubs within a ten minute walk (30mins on the way back).
This country has got it's problems like all other states but it is a tolerant, liberal, free and creative one. It does seem popular with people seeking a better life!
Have a nice weekend where ever you are. |

I would not want to live in SA. I would be worried about getting murdered in my own home.
I personally like doom and gloom and moaning and the dark winter evenings. |

I aint had fish and chips in ahwile! lol Yea the weather is awful here but we're used to it....as for tans well a lot of the desperate people use fake tan, and yeah spain is a very popular tourist destination for brits. |

There ain't many proper Brits left here now their all bloody foreigners |

Oh please! stop sterotyping us brits! we are a lovely diverse bunch, each with our own perculiar habits and traditions. As i have said before, we are not all the same. Its like saying ' all germans wear socks with sandals' or ' all Japanese tourists have a camera hanging round there neck'
Until you have experienced something, dont even attempt to make assumptions!
PROUD TO BE BRITISH!!!
(and anyway i personally like the fact that our weather is unpredictable. Its better than getting out of bed everyday, pulling back the curtain and thinking ' yup, another day of sunshine, how i long for some rain!') |

Yeah i have fish and chips on fridays,

Miss eekoring what don't you shut the hell up
you are writing pure ****, why don't have a bath your self, sun is not the only thing keep people happy happiness comes from the inside,
if you want to be sad go ahead and do so,The week end cant be wonder full and you are in it
you are a very simple person, |

we dont all have perma-tans from going to spain or where ever, iot comes from a bottle from the local chemist or a sun bed salon. as for the fish n chips, its no longer the favourite dish of the nation, i think the curry took that cron years ago, anyway as for fish on a friday that was a catholic thing, something to do with the loaf of bread and 2 gold fish to feed the 5000 or summink, but the church repealed that years ago. we still got the best sense of humour in the world though, you need it with weather like this!!!
anyway its nice to see the steriotypes are still going strong, i just wouldnt want to visit S.A through fear of being mursered and fed to the lions. |

It's dark and cold in winter so the plants can prepare for spring and you can't beat a spring morning in Britain.People on TV are on high wages with lots of paid free time, wouldn't you go on holiday.I can't stay out in the sun to long because I burn and go bright red,I don't like fish own a shower and I can't drive.
Well that leaves me out,I always thought that that I was a bit odd and didn't quite fit in. |

not everyone is unhappy in the uk. yes we do have rain and cold dark nights for 6 months. but, i for one prefer it its nice and cosy, getting wrapped up warm more cuddles and keeping each other warm. there is lots of bouses. as for the sun, we had some this year, but people use sun beds, and fake tan, you dont ned the sun to have a tan. its great living in the uk. i dont have fish and chips every friday, it used to be a taditional night but not any more. i have a shower everyday and sometimes a bath twice a week. and a lot of sensuble drivers over here who dont drink and drive!!!!!!!!! me and my partner drink only ocassionally and definatley dont drink and drive |

I'm from SA, been in England for 2 months and I think its great here. Though I don't intend staying longer than a year, I think its a cool place. I haven't had a problem with the weather either. Fish & Chips, well, I have to say, South Africans love it too. In the olden days in SA, people used to go into town to do their shopping, then eat their Fish & Chips in the bus or train on their way back from home. Weekly bath...I wonder where your brother got that idea from. I have trully English friends, and yes, they bath daily, morning and night.
You'll see for yourself really, its a great place to be in. |

Raining and overcast? Well we get about as much of that as we do of sunshine - at least we do here in the North East. In fact some of the recent days have been absolutely glorious with blue skies of unbroken sunshine and a nip in the air.
It's not depressing, not to me anyway, and I love this time of year.
Okay, so leaving work at 3:30pm to find it is almost dark by the time I get home 50 minutes later isn't great and it is set to get worse before it gets better (come on winter solstice!!) but the darkness applies to pretty much every country on a similar latitude in the northern hemisphere at this time of year so why single out Britain? I think you are a smige jealous that summer is not far off in Zuid Afrika. I am sure you must get dark nights during your wintertime too cos that's the way the world works unless you live on the Equator. *edit* In short, I think you're just homesick for SA.
I don't eat fish, and I don't have a tan. Those with tans probably get them from a sunbed or from overseas holidays. |

Surprised you've noticed the weather and the fact it's getting dark. When you're not sitting at that computer wasting your life on Yahoo Answers, you're watching TV. (The sun-tanned people are in Australian soaps) |

We like the rain. The "tan" you see, thats not a tan, thats rust, from all the rain. Fish on Friday, thats quite a normal, thing, especially for catholics, they are`nt supposed to eat meat on Friday. No we bath or shower every day now! But when I was a kid, (55 years ago)a once a week bath was what we got, a tin bath in front of the fire on Friday night. Friday night was fish and chip night and bath night! You missed out the bit about our bad teeth, and how much you love our accent! Keep stereotyping. |

Omg how shallow can you get!!!!!! Talk about stereotype!!!! If you actually went out into the real world then you would realise that nobody actually looks like people on tv, becasue guess what, everyone in the UK is individual. So stop harping on about our traditions, just becasue your bloo*dy country has none.
Go home if you dont bl*ody like it. |

Have you actually left the place where you are staying and walked around outside since you have arrived in Britain?
Or is your impression of Britain and British people off the tv, and your brother who must have read a guide book to Britain that was published in the 1950's?
We also like winding up ignorant foreigners who believe anything you tell them, i'm sure those Brits in south africa had a good laugh at you being so gullible |
|

Alex
|
It has not been raining, overcast and getting datk for 6 months! We had sun all through the summer and temperatures at 36c, so you are wrong, and we dont have fish and chips every Friday, just because a few people have them it does not mean the whole UK has them! |

i don't know about most people but i quite enjoy the dark nights of winter . its nice to come in from the cold and sit inside a nice warm home with the family looking out onto the weather . winter always seems to be a time when families spend more time together.probably because of the weather !we play board games and watch TV together etc.fish and chips on a friday seem to be tradition in this country and its scrummy!about the once a week bath i assure you we have one everyday! but i think the idea comes from victorian times when a tin bath was set up in front of the fire once a week and the whole family use to use it one after another -on saturday nights i believe so they would all be clean for church on sunday . i expect the water was filthy by the time the last member of the family got into it and more than likely cold! |

To eekoring..........
We manage to stay happy......its called steadfastness,a British trait.
Most British people are white, some use fake tan, some are still sporting a tan from the great summer weather we had. Some, as you are very well aware, are from other countries!! Some even do go to Spain!!
Some Brits have fish and chips on Friday's,some have a Chinese meal, some have a curry!
We shower daily, and bath regularly, sometimes both in one day!
Just one other thing, the majority of us visit our dentist, regularly, every six months. Hopefully that will go some way to dispel the myth that all Brits have rotten teeth!
Hope this goes someway to answer your post, hopefully without the "certain overtones" that I picked up on in your post! I know what I mean, and I think you do too! Have a nice day! Remember......................
don't drink and drive!!!! |

I am English and I live in Spain - I can't stand the English winter. Why the clocks have to be changed so early I do not know. |

easy to stay happy if everything around you is bad then it just makes the good days seem even better....
and most brits have tan due to sunbed machines and fake tan creams..we know going in sun gives you cancer..
and the most eaten dish in britain is chiken tikka massala..oh and as for bathing once a week yer probably right but we shower ever day it better for the enviroment... |

I agree that's why I'm emigrating to Europe the cold dark days etc.The people with tans are the ones covered in fake tan. As for fish and chips the chippy near me has ques out the door on a Friday so I guess your brother's right. England is over priced and over populated. |

Personally I enjoy the weather and lack of light at this time of year. You get to snuggle up on the sofa with a hot man. I don't see what the weather has to do with happiness unless you have S.A.D. Having good relationships and a fulfilling job is far more important. I don't remember the last time I had fish and chips or a bath. The national dish in UK is curry and people have showers every day (unless they are slobs). |

Honestly, or at least in my case, we barely shower. It is terrible, I know, but since it is so chilly here all the time there is never a need to. Besides that, if you fancy dark skies and long winters, you most definantly will love it here. And about the fish on fridays, some of my friends do participate in that tradition, but I am one of the few who does not. |
