it is a little tricky. If you are in downtown London for instance, turning right and left are weird, because you look in the wrong directions.

I did learn one thing that made it a lot easier.

If you are driving in the US in an American car, you ( the driver) are next to the median strip, or the double yellow stripes. In England, in an English car, the driver is STILL next to the median strip.

So, if you aren't next to the median strip, you are in the wrong place.

No accidents.
No near misses.
No tickets.
But absolute terror driving in London, since i hadn't gotten used to the differences yet.

there is no way that it has been "ergonomically proven" that driving on the left side of the road is better.
either way - it is just a convention that became law.

I am from Japan and we also drive on the other side. I mean left side. We are use to drive on the left side like you guys are used to drive on the right side.Switching the side. It is hard to adjust it in the beginning but you will get use to it. Buy the way, we don't drive on the WRONG side, we just drive on the other side!

You will find that it is very discombobulating. The rear view mirror is not out the window but on the other side. And when you want to turn on the turn signal you will watch the windshield wipers go on. In London with wonderful tube, bus and taxi service I would let someone else drive..... Outside London only the roundabouts are perplexing but in small towns the roads are also very small (narrow) . Keep in mind too, that when a pedestrian the traffic will confuse you, so beware. Have fun and stay safe....

I am from New Zealand - we drive on the "correct" side of the road. I am now living in the USA and of course driving is alot different, and took some getting used to. The fact that you are not only driving on the other side of the road, but also sitting on the other side of the car, its makes it a little easier I think. I would suggest getting around in Cabs for your first day, so that you can get the feel for being on the other side of the road, take notice of the roads etc. Of course there are some road rules differences, but I am sure you have an international drivers license so you must know something about the differences.

If you are going to be in the big City's i would suggest you dont drive anyway. Even the locals dont drive a whole lot. Like New York, if you live or stay in the city, you dont usually own are car.

I would think that you would a safer driver because It will force you to drive slower and think before you make that turn.I've driven there perhaps a dozen times with no accidents or even near misses.

I went to London for a month and it was really confusing to drive! Why is everything opppsite? It just doesn't feel natural! Luckily there were no accidents...

driving on the other side (not the wrong side) only feels weird for a little while. no accidents, near misses or tickets yet.

exactly how hard is it? 6. It is exactly 6 difficult. Stupid question

Well as an English person having to put up with "foreigners" driving on our roads, I can tell you they either drive far too fast, or far too slow and hold everyone up! Yes there have lots of near misses that is true, but it must be easier if they hire a car in the UK which has right hand drive.
But have a nice holiday anyway, and try to keep up with the traffic, but don't go too fast. And if you do travel on our beautiful moorland, please drive carefully as sheep roam freely there and it is awful to see them dead by the side of the road. It is the same if you go to Scotland please drive carefully as we only have a few red squirrels left and many of these are killed by speeding motorists.

Its actually ergomically proven to be the correct side of the road. In a manual car the right hand, which for most people is the dominant hand, always remains on the steering wheel. The left hand, or less dominant hand in most people, is used for gear changes ...and yes you will have an accident.
