Touring Scotland by car for two weeks, advice on what to take.?

My wife and I are touring Scotland by hire car in August and would like some advice on what to take regarding clothing as we are unsure due to the fact we normally do 'foreign' holidays.
We will be in Edinburgh,Aberdeen,Inverness,Skye,Glasgo... and Berwick upon Tweed, we know Berwick is not in Scotland but have heard it is a good place to visit .
Any advice would be appreciated.

Take the small roads and you will see the best scenery, the motorway and duel carriageway avoids the best of the scenery. Unfortunately August is the worst month for midges. But if its windy the midges wont affect you. If you smoke it will keep them at bay.

The most spectacular scenery starts at the road that goes through Glencoe, its a must. The most spectacular scenery is North west of Inverness and the Isle of Sky with the dramatic Cullin mountains, you can also see the spectacular Torridon mountains on the main land. Aberdeen area is very flat and cultivated, nice city but it's all granite grey! Inverness the capital of the highlands is fine and Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in the UK. Berwick upon Tweed is also beautiful and quaint.
Get a midge repelant from Avon its very good. Spare petrol tank if your going further North than Inverness as Petrol garages can be few and far between and some close on Sundays. A good road map, binoculars and camera. Good walking boots and clothing for all weathers. As it IS completely different to other parts of the UK up in the highlands. Sun tan lotion and a rain jacket as we can get four seasons in one day on a regular basis.

August is normally quite nice up here, so t shirts, shorts, jeans, skirts, trousers etc are fine. Take a waterproof jacket and an umbrella for the showers and a jumper or cardigan for chillier days and evenings.
Remember to take some insect repellent as the midges do bite at this time of year!
Enjoy your holiday.

Number 6
As above re clothing for all seasons...
Midge repellent...

usual re giving the car a good checking.
Remember to fill it up at before going North of Inverses as fuel can be up to 20% more expensive in the far North....

Grantown on spey is worth an overnight stop

Take a good map and explore some of the minor roads in the far North West, Nice loop just North of Ullapool via Lochinver....

Check this place out: http://www.piesbypost.co.uk/index.html
They have a resturent in Lochinvar.
find a book shop in the middle of no where....just south of Lochinvar plenty to explore whatever the weather.

The highlands are nice but an aquired taste, great scenery and some nice people(same as everywhere else) up here we can have 4 seasons in one day but an umberella is the only universal thing you will need, its not like foreign weather but its not as bad as people make out.Look out for the Midge, they can be hell but some repellent is all thats needed for that problem. You didnt mention places like Ft.William,Oban, the Kingdom of Fife,ST.Andrews etc. On your way to Ft.William pass through Glen Coe,great scenery and great history, take plenty storage for your camera you will need it.Have a nice holiday,Davyb FIFE

It can get warmish during the day (low 20s Celsius), so bring t-shirts etc. But gets a bit chilly at night (around 12 C) so you will need a jumper. Rain coats are always handy as the next lot of rain is always just around the corner!
have a great holiday

wee man !
Sadly, a waterproof jacket(the one's U kin roll-up tight 'n put in U'r pocket are ideal)just -incase the weather takes a-wee-turn-ur-the-worst while U'r here.If it's raining when U'r near Glasgow, dont worry aboot it,there are so many Art Galleries &Museums(all free) that U couldn't visit them all on week-end.The Award winning Kelvingrove Art Gallery&Museum is a must!Travel? this is when U will be like a japanese tourist, camera-in-hand at all times as there are so many memories to take home!A82(Glasgow-Inverness)20min.outside Glasgow U drive up the length ae LochLomond,U'r now in The Highlands, driving through Glencoe, Ft.William(KingBilly)-Ft.Augustus then drive the length ae Loch Ness tae Inverness.Fae there, head North, Jon'o'groats, an' if U would like tae see some ae the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Europe head west tae Cape Wrath(the most desolate part of Europe)the beaches are supplied water fae th Gulf Stream all colours a blue 'n green, deserted beaches a white sand(that's it, am goin back, see whit U'v done?) good cemera extra memory, 'n enjoy U'R holiday, 'n Haste ye back!

It can be warm but more likely to be chilly so sweaters and rainproof jackets are necessary. Also, be sure to bring lots of insect repellent, Scotland is famous for the midges. Have a good time.

tra
jacket with a hood is essential, although it can be hot and sunny the weather turns very quickly, comfortable shoes, whatever you feel comfortable in, don't worry you won't be judged for what you wear so just make sure you are comfortable

Car hire is a great way to see Scotland. I took a trip there two years ago with http://www.arguscarhire.com/ and I was able to visit many more places than would have been possible, had I relied on the local transport.

In relation to your question-you should really take along an umbrella, wellington boots and anything that will protect you from the rain. Like everywhere else that enjoys a typically British summer, Scotland is prone to sudden downpours. On the brightside, at least you've got a car, so you can shelter from the rain in comfort!

The most important thing to start with, is a car.

to be honest its like living anywhere in the UK weather unpredictable .but being a hardy Scots lass the natives at this time of the year wear t shirts, jeans, shorts if the sun is out ,waterproof lightweight jacket(just in case)maybe a jersey in the cooler evenings.nothing to heavy it don't get that cold till about October/November.but if you are visiting the west coast take plenty of insect repellent as the midges bite bad.we live just south of Aberdeen and the weather is not that bad at the moment a few scattered showers and sunshine it can only get better.
