UK Motorway services - why do we allow ourselves to be ripped off? |
They have you "trapped" in the motorway network, or so they think. The fuel is several pence per litre dearer than in town. But worse than that, EIGHT POUNDS for fish and chips? THREE POUNDS for a soggy sandwich? £1.75 for a bottle of WATER, which falls abundantly from the sky and comes out of a tap for free!
Why not use your sat-nav to find somewhere off the next exit, and leave the Welcome Break/Moto butties to go mouldy on the shelves? They may price them more reasonably if we all did this. Additional Details I use these places regularly in Europe. French and Spanish service areas do not rip people off to this extent, and you can park all night, not just for 2 hours. |

I agree 100% .Its a scandal what they charge.I no longer use any of these.I now take food that has been prepared by myself.I must have saved a fortune.I wish that I had done it from the outset. The only time I go in these places is to use the toilet facilities. They have you over a barrel. We should boycott these high way robbers,The fuel at these outlets should be cheaper due to the fact that theyare on main routes and not off the beaten track. The public should dictate to business not the other way round. |

Because people are tired and cranky and need the toilet and never plan ahead! Plus they are scared into it by those tiredness can kill signs followed by 10miles is next services!
I think you would make a million if only you could get planning for a motorway chain that was decent home cooked food at decent prices! |

i totally agree not used them for years now. a nice cooler bag bottles of chilled water and a few home made sandwiches, i am not tight but refuse to be ripped off, when we go down to suffolk we stop at the truck stops great food good prices |

I do not let it happen to me anymore, I got so sick of " Costa-lotta- Coffee, and paying £2-00 for a bag of barley sugars, I now plan all my trips, and prepare fully by making sandwiches, flasks of coffee, and buying sweets and confectionary from my local supermarket. I travelled from Cornwall to the Lake District, last week, and only used the services to walk the dog, and have a pee. We got off the motorway at Hopwood, Birmingham, filled up with petrol in Safeway, Rubery, and then rejoined the motorway. I urge people not to pay the ridiculous prices in these places, they should be shot for daylight robbery. |

Simple your tired, hungry and thirsty the kids screaming in your ear "Are we there yet?" so you bung the kids a tenner to go on the machines. then pay a fortune for BK or kfc etc. and by the time you leave you need to stop again cos one of the kids needs the toilet |
