Michael Fish strikes again... it's been a lovely day in Hull, almost Springtime.

They've probably just exaggerated it! I like storms though its cosy being inside your nice warm house with the wind and rain pouring down outside.
It always makes me laugh when we get a piddly amount of snow and the whole of Britain comes to a stand still. I still go (walk) into work but about 90% or my colleague's phone in saying they cant come in as they've been 'snowed in' even though they live in town and drive to work!

it'll probably be underestimated and we'll all be climbing tree's tomorrow to fetch down our wheelie bins!

manx girl Isle of Man.
it is 5pm and I am in the Isle Of Man and the sun is shining, and hardly any clouds in the sky, I have been waiting for this expected storm too! Guess we will just have to wait and sea, we had a bit of rain yesterday and an exceptionally high tide with a bit of gusty wind, but to-day is fine.......sorry can't help you......................YET!!!!

Wouldn't surprise me ... there are massive black clouds across London right now!

Edit: okay, when is it going to be over? I just ask because I live in Surrey Quays, which for those who don't know is literally the windiest place in London (it's in Docklands) and when it rains, it's impossible to use an umbrella because it is so windy. And I have a job interview first thing in the morning and don't want to turn up looking dishevelled. :-(

10 out of 10
i do not think it will do to much damage i think it might have been over reacted by media.
Fiona we English handle things much better than you lot so don't start with me love.
Sean the wicked Irishman big Ben is way to strong to be knocked down by a little Storm.
personally i think big Ben is best monument in world so i would never want it to be knocked down

The strong wind really scares me because of the damage it causes and I know I wont be able to sleep tonight. They say it will hit us between 2am and 4am

I should be doing something else

I heard it was to be after midnight too in which case I hope I'm asleep by then and it doesn't wake me up cos theres nothing worse than being knackered on a Monday morning =]

I wouldn't bother about turning up for interview looking dishevelled if I was Carri It will speak volume's the fact that you went in such a bad gale. Bet most of the work force won't bother going

I've counted my chimneys...
(one at each end of the house)
And got a good supply of logs indoors beforehand.

If it's going to be the worst of the winter, that's going to be quite impressive, given what we've already had up on the edge of Bodmin Moor*.

And we've been warned off going to the coast to get pictures of the waves. Hmm... Land's End or Cape Cornwall could be spectacular on Tuesday morning...

*hang on, I've got a big black beast at the door whining to be let in.

I have just seen yet another weather forecast on SKY News and they are now saying they are not sure where the first part of the storm will hit during the night ie the west coast or south west and the second part of the storm - with the predicted 80mph winds - is now likely to affect the Channel & south coast by lunchtime on Monday then push up north and east during the rest of the day (possibly with thunder & lightening) but the Monday morning rush hour is meant to be hit quite badly too in most of the country.

I am concerned that this storm has been named 'Joanna' by some meterologists in Germany, I thought only tropical storms and hurricanes were given names, do they know something we dont?!?!?

We live in King's Lynn, Norfolk and at the moment the clouds are building up and it it quite windy but not too bad, is this the calm before the storm I wonder???

sarch_uk
With all due respect Google Earth is not live, and this storm is not due to hit land until much later tonight...

In southern Scotland we have ALREADY had TWO WORSE storms this winter, so we really do not know what the fuss is about - we put it down to the English being unable (as ever) to cope with any difficulty. Luckily, this, comparatively minor storm, looks like by-passing Scotland.

Angel
The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether,

It's going to be England & Wales.
