Deary me....you said "its our capital, we should be proud.
Why can't we have a heritage and culture to be proud of? the French love Paris, the Americans love New York, etc etc...."
New York isn´t the capital of USA!! :-)
I love London..... doesn´t matter what people classify it as - it´s still one of the most cosmpolitan and exciting cities in Europe!!! |

i like being British and i am proud of my culture, i respect others who are proud of their own culture and country. if i wanted to be different i would choose to be that culture, by living in it and respecting its laws and ways.
i hope Yorkshire pud and Eccles cakes stay forever, as well as the great British sea side, Blackpool rock and freedom of speach! |

Well Londoners call it 'London Town' themselves. I'm not that bothered about whether somewhere is a town or a city. They are both the same as far as I'm concerned. I would take issue over spelling it with a small 'l'. It should be a capital 'L' - it's our capital city! |

Closer than 'village' or 'hamlet'.
Being a city is matter of designation by the Crown rather than size. We have cities that are smaller than the average town (e.g. Wells).
As for calling London a town ..... I won't lose sleep over it. |

I would laugh at their ignorance. |

I always think of it as London Town, and have no idea why. London City just doesn't do it, I regard the city as the financial area. Sounds ridiculous, I hope you get good answers cos its an interesting q. xx
And we go "out on the town" but not out in the city? |

I always call it London Town, when I'm being a bit 'arch'.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner..... |

a bit poetical. Some councillors in my neck of the woods are still miffed that the town in which i live has still not been given city status. No wonder. The place is a dump lol |
