hi there, I'm English living in London
1. not sure what I think of the US, only been for a couple of weeks to Florida and watched movies, which is not much to judge by ... I call it America, or The States, or the US ... and sometimes I refer to the people as "Yanks" which I know is incorrect (at least for people from the northern states) but it's a habit that's stuck ... one statistic that I find mind-bending is that only about a quarter of americans have passports, suppose it's not that surprising given the size of your country, guess you don't need to travel over a border that much, but nearly everyone I know has a passport and has travelled to a foreign country
2. not sure whose slang I use, a combination of old cockney, modern stuff I catch off my kids, I dunno! (never used sucky, it sounds rather pornographic to me)
3. not all that fond of most american accents, especially the high-pitched whiney ones, although the ones that drawl can be quite fun ... the worst bit about some americans when they come to London as tourists is that they seem to talk at the top of their voices most of the time (sorry, but you asked) |

1) Don't know, never been, I call it America
2) Never used "Sucky" In what way do you use it? I use Cool and wicked a lot
3) To be totally honest, I am not too keen on the american accent. Sorry xx |

1. we tend to call it America and we are aware of your current election, we hate Bush and we hope you choose your new president wisely.
2. what the heck does sucky means, i guess british slang for jewllery is "Bling" and if you wanna say that something is awesome then say either "banging" or "sound" "cool" would also be acceptable
3. in my view a lot of american people sound the same when it comes to accents, no offence but the american accent sounds similar to the Canadian accent.
we british have so many different accents, from the scottish to the welsh, to the london accent to the yorkshire accent |

Okay i'm going to be blunt just because this is for a book.
1) Many of us don't like America my firends and me would hate to live there, we call it America most of the time too
2)Slang words like butters- ugly, boyd- rejected and other stuff
3) Americans have bloody annoying accents!
I know this may sound me but i wanted to tell the truth |
|

Roosh
 |
1. America
2. Try not to use slang. It shows lack of knowledge of English language and is unnecessary ... and certainly nothing American
3. The American accent is dreadful.
... sorry!!! |

1) I honestly think America thinks to highly of its self and has a grim view on anyone else, also the way you your software and such likes tells us we are spelling things wrong when we ain't... were using British English!!!
For example: COLOUR is correct and so is CENTRE!
I also hate bush!!!
2) I dunno whether i use American slang or not.
3) I dunno what it is with American accents but after a while it gives me a headache, sorry...
I am not saying that I hate everyone in America I just think that America in general thinks it dominates the world... England is England... France is France America should stop telling us how to do things and let us be. |

1. Never been there so can't really rate it...not sure I really wanna go their either...Just not somewhere I've ever wanted to go...I always call it America...never U.S.A
2. We never say "sucky" but we do say something "sucks" we use slang like "minging" (disgusting) and any thing that "sucks" is just bollocks plain and simple...never "sucky..."
3. I actually really don't think much of the American accent at all...a bit too whiney...but I guess that depends where you're from...America's a bloody big place! |
|

I call it America.
I like it, but I don't like how it dominates and steals culture, steals history and tells us how we're speaking our language wrong.
We don't use your slang (We're our own country, you know?)
Don't like, they pipe and annoy me.
EDIT : What a stupid questioner. Look it up. Colour is spelt with a "u" you stupid arrogant Yank! You wonder why we hate you? Well, speak OUR language you dumb *****. |

1) I call it America and I so wanna go to school there! It looks really cool and different to what I am used to.
2) No I don't use the word sucky. I don't even know what it means. When we're on MSN/IM we shorten our words a lot but I don't really use that much slang.
3) Some American accents don't really sound american they sound just like mine, (i don't have a traditional british accent) but the heavy ones are kind of annoying, but only cos its different i suppose.
lol i can't beleive uu never heard someone call it the states, i thought you used that term lol. you do have different words like trash can, we say the bin or the rubbish, diper, we say nappy, do you say pacifier? is that a dummy? Also, movie theatre is cinema here and candy tends to be sweets. do you think british people are posh, i just got this cos of where you sed horrible. lol. i dnt know if it is just mii but i dnt say that lol. I so wanna move to America, the schools, the people, the shopping-just everything! |

1. I think the U.S could be a good place to visit (I never have). I call the U.S. - America.
2. I don't really use slang words, but I am from a city called Bristol so I have a Bristolian accent so I miss out "t's" in some words lol.
3. I think American accents can be annoyingish sorry :S |

1) I like the US. I liked California, people there were friendly and taught me to surf. I also liked Nevada, people there were friendly and let me fire guns and dropped me out of an airplane. I like New York. I liked Coney Beach and the hotdogs. I liked all of it.
2) People use whatever slang is fashionable because of the latest thing on the TV. About a year ago you couldn't go anywhere without somebody doing an impersonation of David Walliams shouting 'I'm a Layyddeeeee...!', Mostly slang is the same as in the US. Except for sentences starting 'So..' And there are one or two very rude words which I notice the Australians have and the British have but do not seem to have popped up in the USA.
3) American accents are fascinating, because America contains 'time-capsules' of accents which have disappeared over the last few hundred years. There are places in America where the accent used is the same as a Devon accent in the 16th century, and the closest accents to those of Shakespeare's english are to be found in some parts of America. Old Scots-Irish accents also survive in some rural places. |

Hey
1. Like the US and am plannin on traveling there (not so keen on how the US views the rest of the world and europe)- normally just call it america
2. the UK has loads and loads of regional dialects (especially the north of england and scotland) so we probably use slang words you havnt heard of such as "nowt" (nothing) "owt" (anything) and "ratch" (look for)
3. Generally we dont notice american accents a lot because a lot of the TV programmes we get are american (some are really annoying though but that applies everywhere) |

1) what is your opinion on the U.S., and what do you normally call it? Mainly America but sometimes USA and I love America been there 5 time because I have family there and I'm 15, all the people I've met there were lovely except this really weird guy who was well really weird. He kept saying "I'd tap that" to me and my American friend and asking us if we wanted to ride to the mall with him (he was a complete stranger and like 25 years old). I don't like George Bush at all no offence to his supporters but he's really stupid and is a bad representative of USA as in everyone thinks all Americans are the same as him intelligence wise.
2) what is the most common slang you use? i.e. do you use the American slang word "sucky"
I don't say sucky sometimes I say something sucks and I say "Oh my God" a lot that's American right? And I know it's not slang but sometimes I say "period" instead of fullstop by accident and then I get really weird stares from my friends because period only means womans kind of period here.
3) What do you think about American accents?
I love the Texas accent and the New York one but some other accents can be REALLY annoying |
|

1. I think it would be a good place to be, with a lot more energy than we have in the UK, although i think some places are too close minded and need to develop that, and i usually call it the US after taking history, but when i'm talking with friends it's probably America.
2. Um no not so much, i don't think i'd ever have a desire to use the word sucky either, unless joking.
3. I like it, plus there are so many different accents all over the US that it's more interesting than those with just one. |
|

Lynnie
|
1) I think the US is like any other country - has it good and bad bits. I call it America.
2) American slang? Not sure - but I do catch myself using American words/terms sometimes.
Or general? I don't really know as I'm used to talking the way I do, so I'm not aware of what 'slang' I may or may not be talking.
3) I think they're cool... I love hearing American people speak.
I especially love the Californian accent. Hearing Brad Delson speak is orgasmic! Lol. |
