I've just returned from a weekend in the Lake District. We went two weeks ago at the begining of May and liked it so much that we went back again this past weekend.
Park Foot campsite near Pooley Bridge is excellent. It has great facilities including a shop, restaraunt, club house (bar and disco), great shower block and enough space for 300 tents and 130 or so tourers.
The best part about it is that its only 10 minutes from the M6 near Penrith, yet you're on the banks of Lake Ullswater with the whole Lake District on your doorstep. |

I've been to Aviemore, in Scotland a few times. Theres a campsite there which is next to the Loch and has a lovely beach. Its not too far into the town either, perfect for a summers weekend. |

I suppose it all depends on where you live due to the unreliable british weather - not wanting to be hours from home with wet tents etc.
If you live near Wales and want to get into true camping then go to Shell Island between Barmouth and Harlech. You can camp in the more civilised fields or down with nature in the sand dune fields. Great if there is a group of you for barbies and sport.
There are toilets, showers, running water, a shop, cafe and most importantly a pub.
If you have a family, you also feel more secure as you have to go through a security barrier to go on and off the island.
Happy camping! |

Season's mostly over now until next November but you might be lucky next weekend if we have the usual Bank Holiday weather. |

There is a lovely seaside resort in Devon called Woolacombe, but the best campsites are in the clifftop village of Morthoe, five minutes drive away. |
