What's better and why - London, Paris or New York?

Hmmm, three cities I really don't like. Well, Paris is the least polluted, New York the most. Paris is also the least expensive, London the most. Paris also has the best public transport of the 3, even if the older metro lines all smell like sewers. New York has the least dog poo on the street, Paris is one of the worst cities in the world for that (only Prague comes close to being as dog-pooed in my experience). London is the darkest, dingiest dirtiest of the 3, but it also has the best parks - open space in Paris is very limited, while I just don't feel safe in Central Park. London had the disadvantage of being the only one even slightly damaged in the second world war (which shows how much of a fight the frogs put up), thus being rebuilt in the horrific 40s/50s style. Londoners may laugh, but it has the best slums of the 3 by a long, long way. Give me Bow or Stratford over Clichy sous Bois any day (the thought of living anywhere in NY is too horrible...).
In conclusion, if it weren't for the fact that I really don't like the French, I'd pick Paris as the best, followed by London and NY. As it is, I'll have to go for London, but only by default.

Hi Happy S,

It depends what you are looking for...
I have visited and stayed in all of these 3 citites and they are very special but for completely different reasons :
London is great. It's clean, secure (relatively compared to the other 2), full of history and very "green" as well...
Paris is the most romantic city in the world. It's full of different culture, fistory and monuments. I find it a bit polluted and people tends to be a bit more agressive. It's cheaper than London but the shopping is still very expensive in some district like the Champs Elysees.
New-York is great to work. Downtown Manhattan would make your head spin around because the buildings are so high... Life is not as expensive as in London and it's definitly "the " place to go shopping. On a security point of view, it's quite safe as long as you remain in the right places (avoid the Bronx...). It's the city which never sleeps, which is great. On an historic point of view, there is nothing old so nothing to compare with London Tower or Versailles...

Hope that helps...

Have been to all three at different stages and I vote for Paris. Beautiful city, friendly people, reasonable prices, lots to visit, see and do. Because of the architecture and fabulous buildings, you could walk around the city for hours and feel the whole history of France ooze through the streets. I hate history and am not interested in architecture either, but there is such a great ambiance and charm to the place. Can't beat it. Transport system is excellent as well and easy to understand.

Has to be London, been to all of them and Paris is the worst, the people there are rude. We were in a cafe and a rat ran through!!so we told the waiter and he said "what do you expect, we are by the river".

It's between London & New York. Paris is over rated. Its one of the dirtier cities I've been to and the people who serve you in shops, restaurants etc are, by UK and def by US standards, just plain rude!

I've been to Paris a few times (holiday, work, passing through), and I'd say go once, see the sights, then don't go again!

Paris!!!
I've been to all these cities several times, and find that Paris is best.

I love it for its museum (esp. Pompidou), sidewalk cafes, beautiful language, architecture...

I like NYC and London too, though not as much.
NYC is good for its Broadway and London for Tate Modern and the Globe, but winter in NYC can be really bitter due to the grid construction for its streets, and London... ohhh... the unpredictable rain!!!!

Paris is the best I have visited. The buildings and culture are really well looked after, and it is the cleanest of the three. Wonderful city!

New York is better.....................it is the city that never sleeps...there's something to do 24 / 7.

London is the best City in the world! It has a greath history like Buckingham, tower of london, tower bridge and the parliament. It is also very modern in some places like canary wharf with very modern towers going up, the london eye, the millenium dome and city of london. London also has great parks.
