depends which part of england you're in. I can only speak for the north - we're mostly friendly, enjoy having a good, sarcastic sense of humour, & where i live, everyone talks to everyone! Out here in the country, we don't care much for trends or fashion as they do in the cities. but the scenery is gorgeous. the weather is unpredictable. x

our culture is the same as yours ,clothes are the same, stores a bit smaller, everything is a bit smaller and quieter, and slower and more refined

I've always felt that Americans expect the English to be eccentric. We probably are by American standards. I went on a coach trip in 1986, from Vancouver to Tijuana, through the Western States, and I loved it. Unfortunately circumstances have prevented me going back.
I live in the South West tip of England. The economy is now mainly agriculture and tourism, but in years gone by mining was very productive, mostly tin, arsenic and china clay. We have one of the mildest climates in England, if you ignore the occasional Atlantic gale. Wages are about the lowest in the country, but prices for housing and car fuel (diesel and petrol, gasoline to you), are high.
The population here is mostly British natives, very few immigrants. People come here to retire, get out of the rat-race, and enjoy a relatively crime-free environment. The indigenous people are friendly, if overwhelmed by "foreigners", people from other parts, whatever their nationality. People moving to the Westcountry try to take over, and impose their ways on us.
Very few independent shops around now. It's all the big chains everywhere.
I think there is a bigger Church culture in the States. People don't bother here anymore. Behaviour standards are slipping everywhere, discipline is sadly lacking.
How about planning a trip over to see for yourself? England offers history and beautiful scenery.

Hello David - there's no easy answer to your question - we have a tremendous variety of people, culture, scenery, weather etc etc! There's a lot of stuff crammed into these islands! As for stores, you'd recognise a few of the names, and our malls would look familiar - and speaking generally, I'd say clothes in the US are often better quality than the cheapest ranges we have here.

All the cr@p you have in your country you've shared with us -McDonalds, Starbucks, Walmart - to name but a few.
Thanks a bunch

the us is ok. in the way that there will be areas of most american towns that you wouldn't feel safe in, there are places like that here too. unfortunately because of the higher density of population in the uk we can't create ghettos for them so they spill over into the real world where decent people live. hope this helps.

Well....It depends where you are, but we are generally proud to be English, and most things are smaller then in the USA, except fuel prices! People are very diverse, bot religion-Wise and personality-wise. The further North in England you go, generally the friendlier people get, however thats not to say you may find the odd friendly southerner!

England used to be great, but its now full of filthy Muslims and eastern Europe scum.

I live in rural England and it's not that diverse where I live. In urban areas as many as 30% of the population is ethnic minorities, and they make up 10% of the total population.

The largest ethnic minority is Indians and the smallest is Pakistanis.

The culture is very similar to US culture I think. There is more subtlety about our nationality than in America, there are no English flags anywhere except when the world cup is on (soccer, every 4 years).

There is a mistrust of America I think. Americans are seen as obese, ignorant and rushing in when they are not wanted. Sorry.
