Edinburgh is a beautiful vibrant city with lots to see and do. There are a few bad areas which most people try to avoid when it gets dark - mostly because they allow their bored teenagers to roam around at night doing whatever they please - but similar problems exist in most UK cities. Most people in Edinburgh are very friendly and there are many people from all over the world who enjoy living there. I'm sure you will love it. :-) |

Dont worry, every town has its rough areas. Make sure you stay near the centre as you can, and you will be able to enjoy the nightlife. Hit Grassmarket, plenty bars out there, or if you're a classy rich chick, George Street is the place.xxxxx |

I lived on Dalry Road for 15 years,
Its a fairly cosmopolitan city despite its size adn the festival helps out with its international vibe - much to the chagrin of Glasgow Ned types who are in constant envy of edinburghs status as Capitol City - you will likely notice some that do nothing but post comments about Edinburgh here - Sad.
Club life is best around the Grassmarket area although a bit studenty - top of Leith walk is also getting pretty decent but dont go any further down on foot as it gets a bit iffy further down - theres a few decent bars on George street as suggested but they are the large Binge drink yourself to liver failure places for the most part - there are a few better small places on the cross streets though - look down the steps below street level.
The Black Bull was a fairly good rock bar - A friend was the manager but think he may have moved on now as Ive lost touch.
I found by the time I left it felt a bit small time for me , and really was very dirty - it always dismayed me if I came back from vacation how much trash was blowing around .
Oh yes - its also cold wet cloudy and windy 99 days out of 100 - summer is one afternoon long and a house costs more than a square mile of the centre of glasgow.
Its a shame about the English thing mentioned - its a prehistoric attitude but you still get some idiots like that (probably weegies or neds - same thing really). Its kinda the skewed vision of patriotism that we see currently in the US - or Germany in the Late thirties/early forties, but in the nicer areas shouldnt be a problem. |

My hubby is english i am scottish and used to live in Edinburgh! We moved for safety reasons after the local neds poured petrol through our letter box and wrote english b******s go back to you own Country in excrement and spray paint on our house. The city has some wonderful elements to it however there are alot of negative ones especially if you sound really english.
My children learnt sign language so they didnt have to speak to each other at bus stops etc so people didnt know they had english accents. |

Are you English?
If so, you will soon see they dislike the English. |

Who said Edinburgh was big? Are you mad? In most countries somewhere the size of Edinburgh wouldnt even be glorafied with "city" status, its tiny and not a city!
Its a hole!! |
