busy, multi-ethnic, dirty, fashionable, fun, lonely, unfriendly, expensive, cosmopolitan, historical, intellectual.

London is so diverse its what you make of it, really.

London is one of the world's greatest cities. It is full of both ancient and cutting edge architecture. The museums are simply amazing and history is everywhere. It is quite pedestrian friendly and a joy to walk around. It's every bit as hustle-bustle as New York. In summer it'll be absolutely swamped with tourists so expect it to be crowded (that's why I prefer to travel in the off season). And, finally, it is EXPENSIVE as can be. Because of the extremely weak dollar versus the British pound everything basically costs double or more what it would cost in a big city here. So you may want to do some budgeting before you go.

absolutely wonderful.
i lived in the us for 5 years before i moved here.

big good things
1) there's so much history - the buildings the streets, everything has history
2) all the museums are free and there's so much to see
3) great nightlife - people are out till 4/5am - lots of people out and loads and loads of places to go
4) accents ;)
5) its a very different culture so lots to explore - at the same time everyone gets english so feel welcome.

the bad
1) its twice the price in the us, for almost everything
2) housing is really difficult to find - make sure you have that setup or have some friends you can hit up

Its good - you will love it. Be prepared for a busy bustling city like New York.

Compared to what? If you live in New York then it is more similar than if you live in California. We have pavements (sidewalks) and use public transport a lot rather than driving. It rains a lot and we complain a lot but we're actually quite friendly if you talk to us first. We don't have over the top friendly service in shops or restaurants which you might find annoying to begin with. We have really old buildings (yes older than 200 years!) which might be fun for you to see and of course Americans just love the British accent. You'll find home comforts everywhere like Starbucks / McDonalds etc. because we've been taken over by the American chains. Try to find some uniquely British things to do though, don't just eat in TGI Fridays! The British Museum is a good place to start or Portobello Road market. The centre of London is full of tourists (Piccadilly circus / Leicester Square) so you're unlikely to meet any real Londoners there. Try Shoreditch / Clapham / Islington for a night out where the real Londoners go.

Don't let the answer above scare you - there is crime like in any other big city but as long as you use your common sense you'll be fine. Don't wander down any dark alleys with a huge camera round your neck talking in a loud American accent about how lost you are (get the picture). If you want directions, ask someone in a shop or someone in a uniform. Keep hold of your possessions, don't wear tons of jewellry - same as for any country. I live in South London and have never had a problem.

Google it in Google Map... then check out the satellite images close up.

Busy and unfriendly. Admittedly there are lots of cool things to see and do in London, but it is so expensive and crowded. I would stay away from the tube wherever possible becasue you miss out on seeing stuff and the stops are so close together anyway! Plan what you want to do before you get there, you should really try and spend some time in others parts of the UK - like up North for example!! Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle are really nice cities with friendly people!!

Ive lived in East London my whole life. Londons bigger than New York city in size but not so many tall buildings. I dont know how it can be fun here as Im use to being here its boring If I was you I wont leave the two boroughs city of London & city of westminister which are in the centre. The other 31 are either boring poor high crime.

Good things
You can cross the road anytime with getting arrested for it.
Pubs open 24 hours can buy alcahol & ciggarettes at 18 but cant smoke in buildings or public spaces. Most people mind their buisness so you can scream and no one will even take much notice. Museums.... yawn. Ugly old buildings....Parks bent roads tramps on every corner drunk cun.ts Brown big dirty river running through the middle. Theres alot of drugs like any city if you want crackheads!!

Bad pointsds
I think youll find prices here expensive were use to this bull.
The weather is shi.t we didnt have any sunshine last summer
They say its multiracial yeah but we hate eachother behind are backs lol. Whites think asians are taking over. Asians hustle your money while they want deals they think they can drive as they like. Blacks hate the police hate blacks. Whites think all black teenagers are in gangs.BNP are fags. Everyone looking for reasons to hate Eastern Europeans/Russians who steal from our front gardens in my area take pills and party all night & supply prostetute broffles and these women who cant speak english follow you tryna make ya buy gold rings. Dont stare at youths youll just start suttin never ask for directions we always lie.
Crimes easy here police ere dont av guns so hus scared of them expect to get robbed if you walk out late.
Tube closes at 12 - 4am which goes around most of London and outside. Dont go East London or South because if your getting robbed especially by teenages no ones helping you everyone scared of us lol theyll just watch or mayb call police but there slow.

Good things:
1) Lots of places to visit and things to do as a tourist e.g. free museums, shops, parks, theatres, restaurants, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London etc etc
2) The Tube (London Underground) is pretty grim at rush hour, but during the day it will get you all around central London
3) Compared to most big cities, it feels quite open - not built up like New York.
4) Multi-cultural

Bad things:
1) High crime
2) Massive poverty, and many uneducated people
3) Aggressive and unfriendly
4) Overcrowded
5) Over-priced

As a tourist I think you will like it. If you stick to the 'tourist areas' and stay in a nice hotel you will be fine.

well if your a shopper like me make sure to go to Oxford street!

London is busy but it is overall really nice. There is a lot to do so you shouldn't get bored. You can always get anywhere pretty quickly with the London Underground subway system they have going.

Driving on the other side of the road is pretty weird though.

If you like big cities you will definitely like it.

but be careful what you buy the currency there is worth about twice the American.

Crowded and polluted with excellent museums and art galleries, culture, beautiful parks and good but expensive restaurants. Indeed everything in London is expensive by comparison with the U.S. London is only one big city in the U.K., so I hope you will find some time to explore some of the rest of the country too, particularly our beautiful countryside.

London is an amazing City, you can do and find just about anything you could possibly want...
I'd plan most things that you want to do, cos if you're anything like me, you'll get distracted by everything and end up just wandering about! Bring you're walking shoes though- I find i end up walking miles cos i end to avoid the tube, one or 2 stops doesn't feel worth it :)

tinkywinky
no parking, beggers at the stations, pick pockets at every venu, bad public transport, no public toilets, and we drive on the wrong side of the road from you

Over populated.. More races than the olympics and generally not a place of choice to visit..

However, if you have never been there it should be an experience.

(Sh1thole in my opinion though..)
