Most places in central London are within walking distance. On the off chance you want to catch the tube or bus, get an Oyster card. Ask at the tube station. They are likely to ask you for a £3 deposit which will be refunded when you return the card. Buses will charge £1 on Oyster the tube will charge £1.50 for travel within Zone 1. If you just top up the card and use it for pay as you go travel, the maximum you will pay is 50p less than the equivalent 1 day travelcard.
Just remember that London tube network is divided into zones - Zone 1 being regarded as central London and Zone 6 being regarded as the London outskirts. The more zones you travel in a single journey, the higher the fare for that journey. |

An oyster card....
It's a plastic card that you top up and you touch on little yellow circles at tube gates and busses and it takes the money off the card, it's cheaper than buying paper tickets.
you can get an oyster card at some dispensing machines or at the windows in tube stations, they cost £3 to buy the card and then you top it up with however much you like. |

it depends on where you want to go and how far, you can get a travelcard or an oyster card, this will enable you to use the underground (metro/subway whatever you want to call it) and the buses, The tube is the best way to travel distances in london, Buses are not bad these days either, but can be a bit slow, or alternatively use your feet, London is big, but sometimes its actually not that far to walk, plus if you walk you get to see the real city and discover new areas/shops etc
If you are travelling late at night - use a licenced black taxi, DO NOT USE an unlicensed car, there are often men touting for cabs, dont use them, they will rip you off and there has been some incidents of rape. |

Definitely the cheapest and most convenient way is to buy an Oyster Card at a newsagents, and travel everywhere on bus and tube! Bon Voyage! |
