BMI and British Airways are generally really expensive. Easyjet are fairly cheap if you book a good few weeks in advance, as are Ryanair (who used to offer flights for 1p with a tax of £4.99, meaning you could get a return flight for a tenner).
The conditions of the buses/coaches vary massively. The last time I took a coach it broke down after half an hour and we had to wait three hours at a service station.
As for trains, Virgin (west coast line) don't have the most reliable service, but if you book far enough in advance you can pay as little as £15 each way. National Express East Coast also offer direct trains and are generally a bit cheaper, however as they have to go so much further east they generally take 5 and a half - 6 hours.
Also, traveling at weekends isn't the best - there are usually engineering works on the trains, and flights are considerably more expensive. |

I would think it's National Express from Victoria Coach Station. It will take a long time though. |
