I would say the Scottish are much much much friendlier than the Irish. The Irish hospitality is a false myth. It's sad to see opinions of people who never really lived in Ireland talking about an Irish friendliness that doesn't exist. The Scottish are very helpful and they always make you feel at home. The Irish are more nationalists and sometimes they behave like racists. Personally I haven't met friendlier people in my life than the Scottish and never so rude and aggressive as the Irish (I don;t mean all the Irish are like that but if you check the history then you can understand)
The Scottish are much friendlier and more tolerant towards the foreigners cause the UK has for years and years an influx of people with different national background. On the contrary the Irish vision is more "Ireland for the Irish".
Don't be fooled by the "alcohol myth". All the Northern countries have this problem (lack of sunshine, rain, cold....). It's just a small minority of idiots you drink to death and mess around everything, annoying others sometimes. |

One day a Scotsman and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They proceeded to each buy a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, two flies landed in their pints, one in each.
The Scotsman fished the offending fly out of his beer and continued drinking it as if nothing had happened.
The Irishman picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer and then started yelling, "SPIT IT OUT! SPIT IT OUT YOU THIEVING BASTARD!!!" |

A lot of Scots (especially in Glasgow) are Irish immigrants, so they have similar personalities. However I think Scottish(I am Scottish with maternal Irish Grandparents) people tend to be more down on themselves i've found, tend to make excuses, Irish seem a bit more laid back but both have the common denominator of DRINK, for some reason most of my friends and family find it impossible to have a good time without it. However Scottish people have the most genuine hearts and speak up for what they believe and wouldn't have a bad word said against their nation, I guess it depends on the area, religion and upbringing of the individual. Like anywhere |

It depends on the individual. I'm Scottish & about the friendliest person you could meet, unless you are an arrogant or impolite idiot, then I reckon i'd be your worst enemy. |

Um they are from two different countries... |

what ARE the differences (plural noun takes 3rd person plural verb form)? there are many commonalities, but most (not all) Irish are Catholic and most (not all) Scots are not. Many more Irish emigrated to the US due to potato famines in the 19th century. Many more Scots are famous for inventions and stuff. It's perhaps simplistic to think one group is nicer or friendlier than the other. |

Irish and scots are equally good and lovely people. |

I would say it just depends on the people not the country. I'm Scottish and I know nice and nasty people. |

right i am scottish and not all of us hate the english.
the irish dont particuarlly like the english but dont hate them.
we have different accents.
and it really depends on where you go in both places to see who is nicest and friendliest. eg i know in a little village, most people will be happy and smiling but in a town like glasgow, most will be unhappy. if you get what i mean. |

Scotland had more types of people invade / inhabit the land, so it is more of a mixture of different cultures than Ireland. The Scots were from Ireland and had a great influence, but there were also Anglo Saxons and Vikings. Before these there were the Britons and the Picts. Then there were the Normans. The story goes on and on. It is very rich and interesting history. You should go to Barnes and Noble and read a book about it. |

You've just asked basically the exact same question!
I've just answered it.
I think they're both sexy (generally) accent wise and that.
I'm scottish though so an irish man does excite me that bit more! But scottish guys have treated me well (excusing some d*ckheads!) so I don't prefer one or the other! |

For heaven's sake, don't get drawn into a discussion like that!! The Irish are a wonderful people, even if they are divided artificially into north and south, and are a right friendly bunch. Just like the Scots. Both nations have the same Celtic roots, so there are many, many similarities. One of them is - avoid religion and politics as topics of conversation in public!! |
